the HI LINE from the Deep SOUTH

By Billy Joe Ann Estess Box 222 , Kentwood , Louisiana
Hi ! With the holidays behind us and warm sunny weather just around the corner , things are looking up in this part of the country . Visitors are beginning to gain in number around the various stables and newcomers are showing great interest in our incomparable breed . Among those newcomers are Mr . and Mrs . BILL KRAPAC of McComb , Mississippi . They bought a good Pride colt from Mr . J . MACK JONES of Port Gibson , Mississippi , as a weanling and have waited patiently for the little fellow to " come of age .” Well , that time has come and he turned out to be a pretty sorrel with flaxen mane and tail and seems to be trying , at this stage of the game , to show that he has potential — I believe he has .
Now there are others , too , that have been " with us ,” so to speak , for many years . These people root for you at all the local shows , visit your stable and pitch in and help in various and sundry ways , stimulate interest among all concerned when interest is at a low ebb . Sometimes these people do not own a show horse , but rather are waiting for the right time to come along or , as in this instance , have a good double-bred Merry Boy mare that will foal soon . Such people as these make training worthwhile and a joy in itself . " Such people ” are Mr . and Mrs . CHARLES MAGEE of Magnolia , Mississippi , more affectionately known as CHARLIE and VAN . Their colt will be by GREER and CARRUTH ’ s Pride ’ s Kismet , and out of that Merry Boy mare mentioned . Their nature is such that one cannot help but wish for them the very best .
The Southwest Mississippi Horsemen ’ s Association held their planning session recently and came up with a tentative date , June 11 , for their annual horse show . No definite schedule has been worked out nor have the committee members been named . There was talk of a two-night affair , ifenoughhelpcanbe incorporated .
I was sorry to learn that Hidden View Stables of Hattiesburg , Mississippi , is no more . They had a real good season last year and the folks there were real fine people . They are offering their horse van for sale : if interested , call REID WOODLEE at AC601 , 582-7772 , in Hattiesburg .
Duty calls , as I hear neighing from down at the
end of that well-worn path . Dinner time is here . See ya soon .
