( Continued from Page 16) Wolaver in the saddle. Their home front trainer, Mr. Kenneth Black, has started this truly outstanding horse as a colt, after buying him when he was 12 months old. He responded so well that it was decided that he was destined for the“ big time.” He was taken to Lewisburg to the Harold Wise stables as a two year old and later moved to the Wolaver Stables where Doug finished him out in time to capture the 2 Year Old Southern Championship class. It was on the strength of this great colt that Mr. Koenig purchased his famous sire.
A run-down of the horses now in training at this Daytona Beach resort Stable, reads like a TRIPLE THREAT family tree. TRIPLE THREAT’ S DREAM, a sorrell 2 year old filly with flax mane and tail is dctined for a showring career as is MISS TRIPLE THREAT, a black mare now in training with Harold Wise. IMA THREAT is another outstanding example of TRIPLE THREAT breeding. She is a 2 year old filly with a lot of natural ability.
Also in training is SUN’ S SECRET HOPE, a 2 year old black filly owned by Bunckic Blackburn of Daytona Beach. Also in training is REBEL’ S RAMPAGE, a chestnut stud with flax mane and tail. Other horses getting training here are MERRY SERENADE, MACK K’ S SPRINGTIME and AGAIN GO SUE, the blue roan marc that Ellen Metzger showed to the Ladies Amateur Championship in the Florida Sunshine Circuit.
Mr. William A. Heuer of Delray Beach has a 2 year old stud named FLORIDA RAMBLER that has just been started and is doing well. REBEL’ S MACK is another of the young horses now in training.
At stud this past season at the Port Orange Stables was MIDNIGHT SUN REPLICA, a big black stallion with an impressive show ring record. He will move to the Harold Wise Stables in Lewisburg, Tennessee to stand the 1967 season.
The Port Orange Stables will be well represented in the Florida Circuit this next season so watch for the name. After that they will be heading for bigger game toward Tennessee.
Gatewood Stables
A recent letter from A. P.“ Sonny” Holt gave us news that he has just finished a six months tour of active duty in the U. S. Army and finding that there were few horses to be trained nowadays, he returned to civilian in the U. S. Army and finding that there were few life.“ Sonny” states that he will be at the Gatewood Stables in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, until the first of the year, where he was prior to entering the service.
Welcome back“ Sonny” Holt. Glad to have you back here instead of in Viet Nam. There aren’ t many horses over there either!
Bendor Farms
A note from Mr. John Bright gives us some good news about their Bendor Farms Walking Horse activity. Among their own horses that should do well next season is MID NIGHT GOLDEN HEIR, a 3 year old stud by BLAZE GOLDEN HEIR out of a MIDNIGHT SUN mare, and MARY’ S WHITE LADY, a fine age mare with ALLEN blood. Mr. Bright states that both Carl and Jackie are high on these two and plan to take them to Florida. The Brights also have a good 3 year old mare named PILOT’ S BAY CHANCE and a 6 year old bay gelding pony named
PILOT’ S BAY CHANCE and a 6 year old bay gelding ponv named COCK ROBIN that was ridden quite successfully last season by Miss Laura Bright.
Mr ' and Mrs. R. E. Murbarger of Lexington have several fine head in training with Carl including COUN TRY JACK’ S GO BOY, a great little stallion that has a winning record. Carl has also just broken a coming two colt for them. The Diamond Brothers of Somerset, Kentucky, have GO BOY’ S FULL HOUSE, a 3 year old stallion. This is the colt that Carl and Jackie showed last season as a 2 year old. He is by MERRY GO BOY and is out of POLLY BLAIN. David Bailey owns MID NIGHT WILD CAT, a coming three stud by MID NIGHT SUN that should prove to be a winner next
season.
BIG TALK FARMS
Willy Cook, the trainer at Doug Cagle’ s Big Talk Farm in Douglasville, Georgia, has several outstanding g horses currently in training.
First of all, there is GO BOY’ S BIG TALK, the aged stallion for whom this Walking Horse operation was named.
Then there is BOMB’ S LAD, an up and coming four year old stud owned jointly by Doug Cagle and J. C. Whiscnant. BOMB’ s LAD is a beautiful bay, with one of the prettiest running walks in this area. He hasn’ t been shown extensively, as Willy is bringing him along slowly, but I feel certain that as an aged stallion he is going to be a big winner.
At the Celebration this year Mr. Cagle purchased HAYNE’ S SUN DUST for his son David. Unfortunately, this good looking four year old sorrell stallion, recently injured his foot and won’ t be able to compete in the Montgomery Show, but we will be hearing more about him next Spring.
Another new horse at Big Talk is a beautiful black mare, SUN DUST LOU, belonging to Blanche Thomas.
Two other juvenile competitors from Big Talk who have had an outstanding summer in the show ring arc Patty Reems on her mare. SHADOW’ S MERRY LADY, and David Whiscnant on his pony TOM DOOLEY IT.
