Marvin Wilson Escuc Walking Horse Stables in Hebron, Kentucky, is touting their new trainer, Mr. Marvin Wilson. Marvin is one of the more experienced professional trainers in the business and has trained at some of the finest stables in the country. For the present, he will be working only those horses belonging to Mr. Fray Escue and his family. Marvin will have his hands full with nine coming-two colts, (five studs and four fillies) all by SUN’S DELIGHT and de scribed b yMr. Escue as being “the pick of the litter by his World Champion for 1966 Yearlings. They arc really great. Marvin is especially pleased to be working DE1- LIGHT’S PLAYBOY, a black two year old stud that should be tops. He will also be working with Nancy Escue and SHADOW’S JET, her Champion Walking Pony, and with Fray and SUNDUST MERRY BOY, his Amateur Gelding. MEET MIDNIGHT MERRY and THE BLACK WIDOW will also be under saddle with Marvin. We should be hearing a lot about Escuc Stables in the future. Steve Hill Stables Making a quick recovery from his untimely fall on GO BOY’S ROYAL HEIR' during the Age Stud Class at the Celebration, trainer Steve Hill is reported to be hard at it again. Fie was scheduled to make several of the Deep South Shows as well as Montgomery Southern Championship. One of the most talked about three year olds around was scheduled to make his showring debut in Baton Rouge with Steve Hill riding. This is the black MIDNIGHT SUN stud colt that reportedly sold for $50,000 and is now owned by Dr. R. W. Raton. Steve has him just about right now' and should give the boys some thing to talk about with him. Steve is working ROYAL HEIR again and should continue his winning ways w'ith this outstanding Aged Stallion. Joe Martin Joe Martin and his wife Judy Wiser Martin have re cently announced their move back to Middle Tennessee. They have taken over the old Patent Leather Farms prop- rty near Wartrace and have turned it into a Walking Horse Stable. It was formerly a Gaited Horse operation. Both Joe and Judy have considerable experience in the Walking Horse business and despite being young in the professional ranks, are highly respected by their associates. Their return to this part of the country has been well re ceived and they announce that they have had a number of top horses offered for training and many good coming two year olds for them to start. It is always hard to open a new stable but these two young people should make a fine contribution to the business in Middle Tennessee. Groover and Black Just a note on the recent purchase"of a real top con tender by Mr. Wink Groover and Mr. Buddy Black. The horse in question is a 2 year old black stallion that Wink had in training for Mr. Roy Davis. Wink believes this horse is “the one I have been looking for” and did enough of a selling job on Mr. Black to get him to purchase half of him. From all reports, he is “one of them things’’ . . . as they say. More about this colt and the Wink Groover Stables later. ® Harold Kennedy News recently came to us that Mr. Harold Kennedy changed locations right after the Celebration. He moved from the Bel Aire Stables in Calhoun. Georgia, to Manor House Farms in Pulaski. Tennessee. Harold, who has wrorked with some of the best stock in the Walking Horse business, will be working with both the aged horses and the yearlings of Mr. B. Earl Puckett, who owns the farms located adjacent to the famous Milky Way Farms. Look fonvard to Flarold Kennedy coming out next year with some top horses for Manor House Farms. Harber and Cherry Good Buddy Bob Cherry keeps us posted about his activity and it appears that he is hard at -work on some hand-picked young stock. MIDNIGHT TYCOON, own ed by fames Rowland of Murfreesboro, heads the list. This stud colt is by MIDNIGHT SUN out of a LAST CHANCE mare and reportedly brought a record price as a colt. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Colvin and daughter Connie of Columbus, also have a good one by the name of MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION! They purchased this filly from Louis T. Bowies and is reported to be ex ceptional. Bob also has seven other fine coming two colts in training. Fie is particularly proud of an EBONY colt that is a full brother to the good filly he showed last year, owned by L. M. Harper of Springfield. } . Harber & Cherry Stables will be standing HILLS MERRY GO BOY next season and should do a lot.o business with him. This, plus a full load of training horses, should keep Mr. Cherry busy. Port Orange Stables Orange and Blue seem to go together very well as the Port Orange Stables launches their 1967 program.
