CALICO FARMS Adds Color to
National Walking Horse Scene.
According to Webster’s dictionary, CALICO is iden
tified as a colored cloth, usually with colored patterns
on one side. The selection of this name for a new
Walking Horse stable, whether intended or not, cer
tainly adds color to the Walking Horse business. Mrs
JACQUELINE KROLL, who, with her husband MARK,
forms the ownership of this beautiful Walking Horse
operation, relates the story of her interest in the
Tennessee Walking Horse in a way that is very en
lightening. Her story is typical of the many people
who, having been brought up with other breeds, made
made the bright change to Walking Horses.
The beginning of Calico Farms goes back about
eight years to when she saw her first Tennessee
Walking Horse at the Miami Horse Show in Florida.
Being from the East (New England), she had never
even heard of a Tennessee Walking Horse. After see
ing the Walking Horse she was admittedly "amazed
at what these horses were doing.” Having a good
background with Hunters and Jumpers, which are
predominant in her area of the country, riding was
a natural state with her, and she vowed then and
there that one day she would own and ride one of
these exquisite animals.
