EXCELLENT FACILITIES - This is the view of the modern stables from the drive entrance to CALICO FARMS. CALICO FARMS Adds Color to National Walking Horse Scene. According to Webster’s dictionary, CALICO is iden­ tified as a colored cloth, usually with colored patterns on one side. The selection of this name for a new Walking Horse stable, whether intended or not, cer­ tainly adds color to the Walking Horse business. Mrs JACQUELINE KROLL, who, with her husband MARK, forms the ownership of this beautiful Walking Horse operation, relates the story of her interest in the Tennessee Walking Horse in a way that is very en­ lightening. Her story is typical of the many people who, having been brought up with other breeds, made made the bright change to Walking Horses. The beginning of Calico Farms goes back about eight years to when she saw her first Tennessee Walking Horse at the Miami Horse Show in Florida. Being from the East (New England), she had never even heard of a Tennessee Walking Horse. After see­ ing the Walking Horse she was admittedly "amazed at what these horses were doing.” Having a good background with Hunters and Jumpers, which are predominant in her area of the country, riding was a natural state with her, and she vowed then and there that one day she would own and ride one of these exquisite animals. 8 The following year she and Mr. MARK KRO
