Bill’s next job was in Phenix City, Alabama, for Dr. N. S. LUTON. From here he went to work for Dr. W. L. COOLEY in Boaz, Alabama. While in Boaz he broke and started Setting Sun Supreme. DON BELL now has this horse but Bill showed Supreme until he was a three-year- old. Idlehour Stables became home for Bill in June of 1964. PORTER NOR MAN of Covington, Tennessee, and PENN MOHON are the owners of this fine set-up. The Mohon children (COLE, four teen years old; DAYTON, eleven years old; and JOHN, seven years old) are frequent visitors to the barn. The Crutcher children are of ten found romping around with the Mohons as they enjoy the stable facilities to the fullest. On the week ends they can often be found at one of the various horse shows in the area, pulling for their favorite trainer. Bill has a gleam in his eye as he talks about this year’s show sea son. The cause of Bill’s optimism can be found in the nine two-year- olds, sired by Little Merry Boy, which he is presently working. Bill hopes to find that top two-year-old that comes along only "once in a blue moon.” Shenandoah, owned by Penn Mo hon and VERNON PICKENS, is one of the two-year-olds that Bill is concentrating on. Two additional Merry Boy colts, Norman’s Go Yon der and Thunderball, are high on Bill’s list. Dr. TERRY CLAY of Covington has a blue roan by Mer ry Boy in training with Bill which could possibly be the two-year-old he’s looking for. Bill has a flashy-looking two-year- old, Rebel’s Black Knight by Mack K’s ReSel, owned by OWEN WIL LIAMS of Boaz, Alabama. This good- looking colt promises to carry on the fine tradition of his sire as a leading show horse. This season ANN MOHON will show Shadrock, a four-year-old bay gelding, in the amateur and ladies classes. Bill has high hopes for Blue Christmas, an aged blue roan mare owned by the Mohons. Idle- hour’s stake horse this season will be Jet’s Commander, owned by Porter Norman. This five-year-old bay stallion has been working well of late and Bill is highly optimistic about the big horse’s chances. Mack April, 1966 mBiwsms solo r star HORSE AUCTION SALE! K’s Spook is all set for another big year following a good season last year in the three-year-old classes. The famed Little Merry Boy is ready for another season of siring leading colts. Bill said that last year was an excellent one for Mer ry Boy but interest in the stallion so far this year indicates that this will be a record year at his court. Bill was particularly pleased by the sale of Sun’s Angel at last year’s Celebration. BUI broke and started this horse, which he sold last year as a three-year-old to Mr. C. M. WATERS, JR., of Alexandria, Louisiana, for a very good price. BUI and his new assistant, WILLY WRIGHT, are hard at work prepar ing for the upcoming show season. Activities around Idlehour are pick P. O. BOX 102 ing up daUy as the stable gets set for another fine year. BUI has done an outstanding job so far in his career in the Walking Horse business. He brings a talent and a firm resolve to the job which argue strongly for his futu re success. With dedicated trainers like Bill and knowledgeable and cooperative own ers like Porter Norman and the Mo hons, it is easy to see how this com bination can make it to the top. A lovely wife and two fine young sters are a source of pride to Bill Crutcher. This and the fine set-up at Idlehour Stable could be another reason for the gleam in Bill’s eye. The VOICE would like to congrat ulate BUI Crutcher for a job weU done in the past, and to wish him every success in the future. 5
