Dr . C . E . Merrifield , Centertown , Missouri , has sent in a request for the very first issue of the VOICE . Dr . Merrifield has all the subsequent issues and would like very much to acquire the first . He says , " I feel as if these are collector ' s items and my collection is incomplete without it ." If anyone has a copy which they would release , please send it to this avid reader .
i just received my January issue of the
VOICE and I want to thank you for the note on Bally Hoo ’ s colt . The colt has finally arrived , foaled January 12 , 1966 , and is a sorrel stallion built just like his dad ! I ’ ve named him Bally Hoo ' s Apollo and he looks like a top colt . D ' leese Williamson State College , Mississippi
I now have four brood mares bred to Secret Command to foal this year . Three of our mares foaled last year , two fillies and one colt . We also have two fine stallions , nineteen months old , that we hope to show next year . We sold three fillies last year . I think we are getting a good start . We had one mare and one filly and one gelding when we opened our place in June , I960 .
We love the VOICE and would not want to miss one issue . Ray Fogarty Medina , Texas
I ' m writing to you to let you know I received my Novemberand December copies of the VOICE . But ... I haven ' t gotten my January issue . I know they run late sometimes , but I thought I ' d drop you a line and let you know I haven ' t received it yet . I think it ' s the All Stallion issue , in which I am very much interested . I ' d appreciate a note saying whether or not it has been mailed , as to relieve my mind from worry .
When it comes to your magazine . I ' m like a boy going to the mailbox . Here ' s hoping it comes tomorrow . Thank you for your time — I really enjoy this magazine . K . E . D . Pylesville , Maryland
As yet I have not received my January or February issues of the VOICE . Would you please send them to me ? I really enjoy the VOICE and wouldn ' t want to miss a single issue . Thanks ... for your wonderful magazine . M . C . Newburg , Missouri
I received my January issueof the VOICE today and I must say it is the best yet . I do not know why I am late in getting your magazine unless people read it before I get it .
If the magazine keeps improving like it did with the January issue , I will not cancel my subscription . M . C . Brantley , Alabama
We want to compliment you on your magazine . It is the best Walking Horse magazine we have read and our many customers and visitors also have the same opinion . We wish you much success and will appreciate it very much if you can stop by for a visit with us . A . M . Murfreesboro , Tennessee
My purpose in writing is to comment on a fine article by Mr . Tommy Fouche . This was the story on M / c / n / ghf Sun ' s death in the November , 1965 , issue . His article contained the little details of his death . Folks are interested in the little things of something of greatness . Mr . Fouche shall help this magazine to continue its growth . H . R . Richmond , Kentucky
Having been laid up the past week with the flu bug , I have re-read many of my past issues of the VOICE and decided to drop you a line which you may edit and publish or file in the wastebasket . Tennessee Walking Horses are not new here but there are few in this locality except for a few show ones of good amateur class . The rest are grade pleasure type used mostly for field trials , and this is the group that I fall into . The many people who think we could develop all Pleasure Horses without the big-time breeders and shows are only kidding themselves . It is the many that do not make the big time that make the best in pleasure , whether it be dogs or horses .
I have had both Beagles and Bird-dogs in competition and it fakes many young ones to get that ONE with all the necessary qualifications to carry on . The same is true of horses : 1 own three and they are strictly trail or pleasure class , but each time I change I hope to improve both the blood lines and the quality . So just one suggestion : LET ' S KEEP THE BIG TIME GO ING , for it is the fountain of life for which we strive . R . E . S . Corbondale , Illinois
One of the most beloved of horsemen passed away on January 12 , 1966 . Mr . Shelby Coasts of Tiptonsville , Tennessee , was a man that knew horses from way back . He broke and trained many Walking Horses for the show ring and was always well up in the receiving line when the awards were made in shows of West Tennessee , Kentucky , Arkansas , Missouri , and Illinois . Shelby had a host of friends who will miss his passing remarks at most all West Tennessee shows . Henry Alexander Clinton , Kentucky
Mr . Brooke E . Ettinger of Longview Acres , Martinsburg , West Virginia , says there is a definite need for Walking Horse farriers in and around his area . He stated , " This particular area is only about 80 road miles from Washington , D . C ., and Baltimore , Maryland , and is adjacent to the hunt country of Virginia , as well as being bounded closely by Maryland and Pennsylvania . So surely it cannot be too great a problem to expect qualified farriers to receive adequate business in the area . I do not know what can be done , but anything your publication can do to encourage qualified farriers to learn the tricks of the Tennessee Walking Horse trade would surely help ." ( Thought we would pass this note along to any interested parties .)
I have wanted for some time to congratulate you on the wonderful job you have done with VOICE Magazine and am now prompted to do so by two very fine articles in the January issue : What I Look For In A Walking Horse Colt , by Mr . Joe Urquhart ; and the one on genetics by Prof . Stewart Fowler of the University of Louisiana . This type of information is priceless to the amateur horseman and I hope there will be more to come . J . J . Russellville , Alabama
