1965-Voice Of The Tennessee Walking Horse 1965 September Voice | Page 54

Fair Warning was a lot of Walking Horse in this class as Kay Pierce rode this hardworking mare to the blue ribbon in championship form. Kay and her mount made a determined showing to thrill the crowd and capture the title. Jan Wright guided Dark Shadow to the reserve spot with a dramatic run for the blue in the final workout. Jan made her bid in the workout but could not quite match the winner. Judy Tillett and The Untouchable showed the crowd some real fine walking in tying the third place ribbon. Judy is a relative newcomer at showing horses but she performed like a tried and true veteran in this top quality class.

Crowd favorite Shadow ' s King Cotton, with Buddy Hugh up, made a tremendous showing in all respects to win the coveted threeyear-old title. Buddy ' s horse literally swept around the track in the running walk and was in good form in his other gaits as he tied first on two cards. Popular Betty Sain make a strong showing on Shaker ' s Shocker and tied reserve to the big white stallion. Betty has certainly done a fine job with this horse and proved it without a doubt by her fine exhibition in this class. Doug Wolaver used his experience wisely and took Handshaker ' s Rebel to the third place slot. Doug saved his horse for that all-important workout and then turned him loose to capture the yellow ribbon.

Goldfinger captured all three judges ' cards, the crowd ' s fancy, and a lot of pencil-wielding children ' s hearts as he won the title over several real contenders. Wink Groover worked his horse perfectly and used his many skills to the utmost in bringing the blue ribbon to the proud owners of this beautiful horse. Reserve honors went to Joe Webb on The Entertainer, a horse which Joe often compares to the great Carbon Copy. Joe let his horse really go in the running walk and almost grabbed the title from Goldfinger Billy Brantley and Big Shot ' s T Bird were in there battling all the way as they tied third. Billy ' s horse is still growing and shows real signs of being one of the top horses in years to come.
