Exhibitors came from as far west as California and Colorado , from as far east as Virginia and North Carolina , from as far north as Michigan and Ohio , and from as far south as Florida and southern Louisiana .
One challenge trophy was retired in the 1964 competition . CATHY MOTLOW , driving Queen Ann in the " Fine Harness Pony ” class , won blue ribbon honors and permanent possession of the challenge trophy for SUSAN NORRIS of Miami , Florida . A challenge trophy must be won by the same owner three times before he obtains permanent possession of it .
W . T . BAYNARD of Baton Rouge , Louisiana retired the Governor Ellington Challenge Trophy by winning first place in the " Ladies or Gentlemen Amateur Riders on Walking Horses " class for the three consecutive years of 1961 . 1962 , and 1963 . Mr . Baynard then donated a new challenge trophy for the same class and immediately won temporary possession of it by taking first honors on Sundust Perfection in 1964 . Mr . Baynard ' s outstanding record does not , however , stop there . He also won for the first time temporary possession of the challenge trophy in the " Four-Year-Old and Over Walking Mares ” class . JACK WARRNE took the blue ribbon honors for him in this class by riding Fascination B to victory over fifteen other outstanding mares .
Currently only one challenge trophy has been won more than once by the same owner . In the " Two-Year- Old Walking Mares ” class JOHN W . LITTLE of the Happy Hollow Stables won the trophy in 1955 and again in 1956 , but no other ownerhashad more than one win since . In 1964 DONALD PASCHAL rode Go Boy ’ s Connie Sue to victory in a class of 24 for DR . RUSSELL MYERS of Woodbury , Tennessee .

The picnic , which was started four years ago , has been so popular that the Horsemen ’ s Association has made it an annual affair . The home-cooked food is courtesy of the Horsemen , and they put forth a maximum effort to make all of the guests feel welcome .
NEW SCAR-AID PRODUCT MARKETED BY KANSAS CITY FIRM
A remarkable and versatile new preparation for the treatment of wounds and scar tissue on horses was introduced recently by Medical Products Laboratories , Inc ., an aggressive young pharmaceutical firm headed by GEORGE E . MURRAY , Kansas City attorney . Labeled EQUINE SCAR-AID , this unique product removes old scars on horses and restores hair in its original color ; prevents new injuries from leaving scars or white hair ; prevents and cures proud flesh . Developed in Europe , EQUINE SCAR-AID is manufactured in Kansas City , Missouri . Medical Products Laboratories has U . S . patent numbers 345,844 and 428,576 pending on their preparations . The SCAR- AID patent application states , in part : "..... a secret process for the manufacture of a certain substance and solution for the healing of minor wounds , cuts and scars on animals , and stimulating the growth of new fur or hair on and around the wound or scar tissues and aiding in maintaining and / or improving the cosmetic appearance of the animal .”
Prior to marketing this new product , EQUINE SCAR-AID was tested and found to be highly effective by leading horsemen and veterinarians . JOE WEBB , internationally-known trainer of World Champion Tennessee Walking Horses such as Carbon Copy , used the product extensively in his Searcy , Arkansas stables . After using the preparation , Webb said , " This is the closest thing to a miracle drug I ’ ve seen ! This is absolutely the best I have ever used .” Murray , head of Medical Products Laboratories , states , " We feel that SCAR-AID is the best veterinary preparation , for its purposes , ever marketed . However , even SCAR-AID cannot work miracles , and occasionally you find an area that is so severely damaged that the hair follicles are destroyed . In such instances , neither SCAR-AID nor anything else can restore the hair . However , such instances are infrequent , and the company stands ready to refund money to anyone not satisfied with product performance .” Murray believes that there are truly many fine products not generally available today because of the many problems encountered in marketing . The people of Medical Laboratories , Inc . are young and aggressive , and would welcome inquiries from anyone with a product that would benefit horsemen or cattlemen .
Medical Products Laboratories is now in the early stages of marketing new EQUINE SCAR-AID on a national basis . Tack shops , saddle stores and other potential dealers interested in handling the product are invited to address inquiries to company offices : 1010 Home Savings Building , Kansas City , Missouri 64106 . Individual horse owners or trainers wishing to use or test the product are requested to forward a $ 3.75 check or money order , for each 4-ounce bottle required , to the above address . EQUINE SCAR-AID will be shipped promptly postpaid , and money will be cheerfully refunded on request if users are not completely satisfied . EQUINE SCAR-AID should be applied daily , from two to six weeks , depending on the extent of damage to the area being treated . Each 4-ounce bottle is adequate for over 100 applications to areas two inches by three inches in size .
