NOW . . . YOU CAN SEE WALKING HORSE CHAMPIONS in Action!! SEE PAGE 58 TARHEEL REVIEW THIS ISSUE! by Elaine and Harold Thacker Rt. 5, Winston-Salem, N. C. On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of April, the Seventh Annual Fayetteville Horse Show was held. The wea ther threatened all the time, but it didn’t keep the show from going off perfectly. Mr. GEORGE WITT from Athens, Alabama was the honorable judge. He did a very fine job. The Walking Horse Championship Stake was won by C. A. BOBO on Go Boy’s Dark Knight. This fine black stallion is owned by Dr. and Mrs. HUBERT POTEAT of Smithfield, North Carolina. Sun’s Sensation won Ladies Up on Walking Mares and Geldings Class. Sensation was ridden by MAR THA BOBO, daughter of C. A. Bobo. She was riding for Mr. C. M. WATERS, JR., Alexandria, Louisiana. Again from the C. A. Bobo and Son Stables came the winner of the Junior Walking Horse Class. It was Miss BRENDA SMITH from Lexington, North Caro lina. Miss Smith rode Midnight Black Lady. Midnight Jet Star won the Two-Year-Old Class. Jet Star is owned by Dr. EDWARD JONES, Thomasville, N. C., and was shown by Mr. KENNY PRICE. Miss CANDACE WILLIAMS from Fayetteville, North Carolina won the Juvenile Walking Horse Class on Go Boy’s Ebony Angel. Candace also won the Amateur Walking Horse Championship Stake in very fine style on Mr. Chevrolet. Both Ebony Angel and Mr. Chevrolet are owned by Sally Hill Farms of Fay etteville, N. C. and Florence, S. C., and were trained by KENNETH BURK. We received some good news from Sally Hill Farms — they have purchased a new mare. Her name is Cindy’s Shadow. Candace and Cindy should make a wonderful team and we want to wish them a lot of success in the coming months. The High Point Lions Club held its Twenty-First Annual Horse Show on May 29th at Albion Millis Stadium in High Point, North Carolina. The Ladies Walking Horse Championship Stake and the Amateur Walking Horse Championship Stake were won by Duke of Delina with MARGARET HUBBARD up. Duke is owned by Mr. and Mrs. E. A. HUBBARD of Sanford, North Carolina, and is trained by Mr. C. A. Bobo. The Two-Year-Old Class was won by King of the Road withMr. KENNY PRICE up for Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES BLACKBURN of High Point. This wonderful black colt has been shown three times this season and has won a biue each time. His first show was in Hickory, N. C. withMr. DONALD PASCHAL, Woodberry, Tennessee, 42 judging. His second show was High Point, with Mr. PAUL SMITH, Wintergarden, Florida judging. His third show was the Dallas, North Carolina show with Mr. WINK GROOVER, Etowah, Tennessee judging. King of the Road is yet to be defeated. KENNY PRICE rode Sun’s Jim Mack to an out standing victory in the Stallion and Gelding Class. Jim Mack is owned by Dr. and Mrs. BOB SNIDER of Lexington, North Carolina. Green Back Money Tree with Mr. CHARLES "Dude” CROWDER up was the winning combination in the Championship Walking Horse Class. Money Tree exe cuted three perfect gaits with plenty of speed and form in the running walk and unbelievable motion. Congratulations, DUDE. Mr. PAUL SMITH, Wintergarden, Florida, was the Walking Horse Judge. Congratulations, Mr. SMITH, for a job well done. Overall, the Walking Horse Classes have been the best and largest this season than ever before. As long as North Carolina has trainers like Mr. C. A. BOBO, Mr. KENNY PRICE, Mr. "DUDE” CROWDER, Mr. KENNETH BURK, Mr. JERRY DERRYBERRY, Mr. CHARLIE SAPP and many others, there will be better Walking Horses and larger Walking Horse classes in North Carolina.
