Hope you are like me in the fact that I’ m always so glad to see February get here because Spring is just around the comer. We haven’ t had what you’ d call a severe winter, but I’ m still looking for Mother Nature to slip a cold wave in on us before it’ s all over. Mostly I’ d like spring to get here because that means the“ wee ones” will be appearing by their mother’ s sides and that, to me, is always a beautiful sight.
While talking to Jimmy Holloway the other day he told me about his bam full of good horses, and I’ ll try to relate some of the facts to you. Seems as though Mr. Charlie Maddox saw just the horse he wanted in CHARLIE’ S ROYAL FLUSH, a sorrel stud who is a grandson of MIDNIGHT SUN and out of a MERRY MAKER mare, so he just up and bought him. Jimmy says he’ s by far the best horse he’ s ever ridden and he’ s just coming four.
The plans are that SON OF MA HOGANY, owned by T. E. Robertson of Eldorado, Arkansas will be groomed for the stake classes. This classy mount is by SUN and out of a HALL ALLEN mare. Jimmy says,“ He is READY.”
Luck seems to follow some people, va know, Jimmy is the proud trainer that is working this year’ s World’ s Champion Yearling Stud Colt, GO BOY’ S BIG SHOT, owned by Mr. Charlie Maddox, and says that he will be the one to wear the roses this coming Fall.
Mr. Pete Fisher of Jonestown, Miss, has a good two year old with Jimmy. MR. PETE’ S SHADOW is a deep chestnut sorrel, pretty as a picture and has that big lick. Mr.
Fisher also owns SUN’ S DELTA EAGLE, a coming three year old by SUN that is said to be one of the top Junior studs of the coming season. Jimmy says that Mr. Fisher is really lucky to have two top horses at one time, but that he has a very good band of brood mares and that he breeds to only the finest studs.
JOE McADAMS, a good looking black stallion by Mr. Gill’ s MID NIGHT SUN stud is coming three years old and doing a tremendous job. Everyone that has seen this beauty is crazy about him, and so is his owner, Dr. Thurston Whitaker of Vicksburg, Miss.
The great MAGIC NIGHT will be back in training this Spring. Owners, Lin-Mar Stables, of Louise, Miss, have been resting MA GIC NIGHT all winter, but say he will be ready for the coming season. Lin-Mar also owns IKE’ S MIKE, a gray stud that has really come a long way this winter. He will be shown in the Amateur Stallion classes so look out for him. He carries himself like a Prince and can really rear back and go.
The famed MYSTERY’ S BIG SHOT, who has a basket full of blues to his credit, will be back stronger than ever to carry Miss Jean Tudor fo Grenada, Miss, to many more impressive wins, we feel sure.
Danny Stubbs, no longer little, will be trying his best on his good GO BOY’ S NIGHT SHADOW. Danny and his new horse have been really putting an awful lot of team work into their strategy for taking home the blues this year.
MAGIC’ S MERRY MISS, a three year old black mare has come to the front this year. Owned by the C. D. Maddox Stables, she is big and pretty and has the right way
of going.’
MYSTERY’ S FURY, who placed third in the two year old gelding class at the Celebration last year, is coming along nicely and Jimmy says he would make an excellent mount for a child or lady.
Jimmy has just received three of Mr. C. M. Waters’ horses to work, also, so looks like with the Royal Flusher and the Full House he’ s got, Jimmy has a real good hand coming up for the next year!
Hope to see ya’ ll at the big sale in Kosciusko, Mississippi on March 26th and 27th. Bye now!
SOUTH GEORGIA HORSE SHOW EXHIBITORS ASSOCIATION AIDS WALKING HORSE ACTIVITY
The following letter was submitted as a general news article by Mrs. R. G. Puckett of Shellman,
Georgia.
The South Georgia Horse Show Exhibitors Association was organized this past March and had over 70 members this past year. We held monthly meetings with
I good crowds, and feel that through j this Association about 7 shows were held in South Georgia and j we believe that more shows will | be this coming year as a result of! the Association. We had our first
Christmas party and presented tro- 5 phies for the highest points in the; different classes and had about 90 members and visitors to attend.
Mr. Spencer Walker will be our: president next year. Bob was pres-! ident this year and I was and will
be secretary-treasurer. Our first 1 meeting of the new year is to be in Albany, January 25.
If all the country has had as much rain and freezing weather as we, I’ m sure that horses have not been worked like they should have been. Every horse in our barn has had“ That” cold after Montgomery. Pat and Gary stayed busy doctoring. But they are well now and Gary is working four coming 2 year olds plus our horses and some outside horses. We were certainly proud that GO BOY’ S
