SAM PASCHAL and JOHNNY MIDNIGHT The inimitable SAM PASCHAL, possessor of World Championship Roses of three previous Horse Show seasons, is taking aim on master honors again with the well-known Johnny Mid night. Sam, who has recently taken over the reins of this potentially great horse, was the personal choice as trainer by the horse’s new owners, Mr. THOMAS E. EATON and Mr. LARRY GRIBBLE, both of McMinnville, Tennessee. Subject of much discussion for over two years, Johnny Midnight has the potential of becoming one of the truly outstanding horses of the breed. A full brother to Sun’s Delight, the 1963 World’s Grand Champion which Sam Paschal trained and rode to top honors, Johnny Midnight shows all the fine attributes of his Midnight Sun and Wilson Snip’s Chance breeding. As might be expected, there is a real human interest story surrounding the purchase of this horse and, the decision of the new owners to place this remarkable animal in Mr. Paschal’s care. When asked about their purchase of Johnny Midnight and their reasons for paying such an alleged high price for him, both Mr. Gribble and Mr. Eaton smile and statethat'itjusthappened.’ The story goes that these two horse lovers met on the streets of McMinnville one day after the 1964 Celebration, and Larry laughingly said, "If I were able, I would go right out and buy the next World’s Champion Walking Horse. ” Itdidn’t take much prodding by Mr. Eaton to provide the name of the horse, and from this slight beginning the wheels were put in motion to make the pur chase of the horse and to arrange for Sam Pas chal to train him. a Action pictures showing an unretouched sequence of JOHNNY MIDNIGHT in the running walk Uy Chuck Lay to n.
