1965-Voice Of The Tennessee Walking Horse 1965 April Voice | Page 21

By Betty Bledsoe 9144 Macon Rd „ Cordova , Tenn .
We ’ re so long between shows that the name of the game played by the local horsemen could only be called " stable-hopping . ’’ Whether we ’ re in Mr . LENOX ’ S beautiful Collierville show place , up at TED BEARE ’ S in Rutherford or here at home at Merry Acres , the crowds are rotating around ’ til everywhere you go , you see everyone you know .
At the Scruggs and Beare Stable , TED is getting alot of action out of a big Junior mare of Mr . CHERRY ’ S , with a bold way of going . And they ’ re pleased as punch over a bay colt with Midnight Sun breeding that belongs to Mr . QUINTON BOYETT of Kennon , Tennessee . As I told Mr . Boyett , lots of folks have good-looking colts , but most of us didn ’ t raise ' em ourselves , as he did , so he ’ s got extra reason to be proud . We ’ ll miss seeing Ted on his 1964 Junior stallion . They made a winning combination in the Mid-South junior classes , but he and Mr . SCRUGGS sold the flashy favorite to a neighbor down South , Mr . C . D . MADDOX , who has him with JIMMY HOLLOWAY , and will show him as Charles ’ Royal Flush .
RUSSELL PATE is working a beautiful prospect in the twoyear-old division , GLL ’ s Little Mack K , a chestnut colt with a typical big lick , along with a palomino stablemate , Go Boy ’ s Gold Chance and the two-yearold Elly , Shadow ’ s Meshack . Carbon Copy is drawing a crowd of court followers , to put it mildly .

For my money , that horse looks beautiful moving , standing still , or eating his breakfast . It ’ s the greatest thing that ever happened in Shelby County-just having a horse like Carbon Copy in the neighborhood .
JOHN STROUD finally settled down after his Jubilee wins and is working a gang of colts and fillies for the coming year . Mack K ’ s Big Man , Go Boy ’ s Knight and Crusader ’ s Baby Doll , all owned by LO McDANIEL , HAR VEY AYCOCK ’ s Special Black Boy and NOLAN SMITH ’ S Sun ’ s Misfortune and Sun ’ s Dark Arrow , this latter colt a full brother to Mr . Smith ’ s Sun ’ s Beauty who tied third in his two-year-old Jubilee class , are a few of the Millington trainer ’ s hopefuls . Meanwhile , back at the ranch , I ’ ll have to report we ’ ve got a black two-year-old Sun ’ s Security Elly that may not make it ' til show time . She ’ s so loose , I ’ m afraid she ’ s going to shake to pieces . The kids all have new horses , and perhaps theless said about that , the better , except for little CINDY who ’ s so excited over her first honest-to-goodness Walking Horse . The Boss is going to show his all-time favorite this year , a late-blooming chestnut stallion that ’ s either awfully good or I ’ m awfully prejudiced . Mr . and Mrs . MALCOLM CHIL DERS of Memphis will have a brand-new star in the Mid-South firmament in their classy little roan mare that their son Mickey will show in the Walking Pony class . A really good-looking pony is a particular delight tome , and this one looks outstanding . A new Memphian , Mr . LARRY BRIGHT , formerly ofTylertown , Mississippi , brought along with him a fine black Shadow filly that ’ s starting well and should make her owner proud . Larry is a very versatile young man-he not only rides Walking Horses , he ’ s one of the few people in the " have organ , will travel ” business , so we ’ ll either see him going around the ring or sitting at the keyboard in the middle of it .
Until next month , Mid-South , when your stable-hopping brings you in this direction , park-in for a visit and we ’ ll give you a cuppa coffee and swap ahosstaleorso .
