BARN STORMING( Conid.) of the great horses of the breed. Good luck Charlie!
MAL GRAHAM STABLES
There is a new face at Mai Graham Stables, Meridian. Mississippi. Larry Edwards, trainer of the 1964 World Champion Junior Gelding, MR. RUFF, is now training there. Larry came to work with the Grahams right after the Celebration and has done a good job of keeping their stock going strong in some of the hard late-season shows. He has been working as a professional trainer for only a short time but has a lot of horse sense crammed into his twenty-one years. Aiming for the 1965 season, Larry will be working with the Grahams and their string of horses. He will concentrate on SUN’ S PAPER DOLL, the big bold amateur horse that Raye Graham showed this year, and also PHILS GO BOY. another Amateur horse shown by Raye.
At the present, he also has MAY FLOWER MOVER, a two year old roan stud colt, STAR OF THE SUN, an eight year old chestnut mare and five coming two year old colts which he will have to break and start this winter. We will all be looking forward to seeing the MAL GRAHAM STABLES horses in the ring next year.
HIDDEN SPRINGS FARMS
Word comes from trainer Sam Cecil that he is now located at the Hidden Springs Farms in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. Sam, who was previously with the C. E. Clement Stables in Hickory, North Carolina, has moved to this part of the country to take over the stable operation of Mr. E. Richard Bell and Mr. Richard Stevens, key men in a corporation that owns the Hidden Springs Farms. Near Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Hidden Springs Farms, offers the finest facilities for training Walking Horses and with the experienced hand of young Mr. Cecil, should be well on the road to making a national reputation as a center for Walking Horse activities in this section of the country.

Bits & Spurs
By Sharon Terry Box 1178 State College, Miss.
On November 21, my great horse BIG MAN has been dead one year. I have been remembering shows long past; Montgomery, The Jubilee, Jackson and Greenville— he won them all. One of his biggest achievements was winning the Grand Champion Walking Horse award of the Mid-South Horse Show Association in 1959 when I was only twelve years old. People still ask me at shows all over the country,“ Sharon, where is BIG MAN?” BIG MAN was probably the greatest gelding of his day shown by a juvenile. I will never have another BIG MAN— no horse can take his place in my heart.
One of the most thrilling events of the big Jackson, Mississippi horse show was the performance by the Lippizan horses; the famous white horses of Vienna. I was very excited when I talked to Mr. Otto Paster, trainer and one of the riders of these great horses. He gave me the complete history of these horses, and told me all about the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria.
One of the most interesting facts about the Lippizans is that they each wear three brands. On the lower left jaw is the brand“ L” for Lippizan. Under the saddle blanket is branded each horses name. And, last on the right hip of each horse is the Imperial Crown of Austria. These brands are quite different from American brands( like cattle brands). On these brands the hair is simply ruffled into the brand; there is no scar and it will not brush out or wear away.
Mr. Paster gave Patricia De- Loach and me a special invitation to come to the barn next morning to make pictures. Mr. Paster surprise me most of all when he put us up on two of the famous Lippizans and gave us a Spanish riding seat lesson!! We actually rode the Lippizans! I have never been so excited! I gave Mr. Paster several of our“ Sharon Terry” rhinestone brow bands and now the famous horses will be performing with our brow bands! Believe me, it really is a“ fab” feeling to be sitting astride one of those great white horses!
Jackson, Mississippi was a wonderful show with lots of good horses and a big crowd of spectators. D’ Leese Williamson made another terrific pair of shows with BOMB’ S BALLY HOO to win the Amateur Stallion class and Amateur Stake at this show.
Only got to the Jubilee for two nights. Buddy Hugh’ s white two year old was the talk of the show. The sale of CARBON COPY to Mr. George Lee Lenox of Collierville caused a lot of excitement.
Haven’ t time to write up all the shows— after all, I have to study sometime! Send your news to me at Box 1178, State College, Miss. Trrri i n 1111111111111111
