BREEDING— The 1964 breeding season is beginning to taper off. Many of the stallions of the breed have a full book and others are very pleased at the increased business this year. Due to well planned promotion programs, planned breeding, better mares and more good looking colts on the ground by heretofore unproven stallions, the Tennessee Walking Horse continues to improve as a breed with continued emphasis being put on producing finer colts with more natural ability. Good stallions have been located and are being promoted in some parts of the country which previously have not had the benefit of top Walking Horse blood lines. Business is good!
GENERAL— From coast to coast we receive encouraging reports of increased activity with the Tennessee Walking Horse. As a breed we still have several problems which will be solved with time. One big problem is the need for more horses. Pleasure horses are continually in demand and of course the true exponents of the breed insist on registration papers even for their pleasure horses. As we all know, every horse is not going to make a top show horse and the best market for those that do not make it is for pleasure riding. The market is out there and they are ready and willing to pay the price! Regardless of your particular interest in the Tennessee Walking Horse, you should be proud of the breed and the progress we are
making! _______________
