Bits & Spurs

By SHARON TERRY P . O . Box 1032 Cleveland , Mississippi
We are always delighted when our young people express an interest in being active in any phase of the Walking Horse business . We are especially pleased when such a young person expresses an interest in the VOICE and offers her support for the expressed purpose of bettering the breed . Miss Sharon Terry is no stranger to the Walking Horse World . Her parents , Mr . and Mrs . Will C . Terry of Cleveland , Mississippi have operated the Sharon Terry Stables for several years and have seen their daughter progress to the ranks of the top juvenile and amateur exhibitors in the land . Sharon plans to cover various parts of the Southland and report the Walking Horse activity as she sees it . We appreciate her efforts to assist the VOICE in becoming the “ word ” of the Tennessee Walking Horse from coast to coast and are looking forward to her articles very much . Welcome Sharon !
THE EDITORS
I am very pleased to be writing this column for the VOICE , and I will be most happy to take stable news from any of its numerous readers . As a senior , I have not had time to make many shows yet , but now that we ’ re graduated , I ’ ll be going to all of them .
My parents were over at Joe Webb ’ s stable in Searcy , Arkansas , and they came back to report that CARBON COPY is right and ready for the show season . Joe also has a good two year old black stud named THE HUSTLER for whom he has great expectations .
Hideaway Stables , owned by Mr . and Mrs . Fred Bailey and family of Lambert , Mississippi , has a good string of horses this year . The black two year old stallion , ES THER ’ S GO BOY , shows tremendous potential , while Katherine and her mare , MARK OF GO BOY , are something to watch out for in Juvenile and Equitation Classes . Kathy ’ s little brother Van has proved his riding ability by winning the Juvenile Class at Charleston on May 26 . The fast going stallion with the big lick , GO BOY ’ S RASCAL , is coming along nicely for Glenn , who has taken him for his own mount in Amateur as well as Open Classes , and I predict that this pair will win a lot of blues before the season is over .
Linda Robinson made a terrific show on GO BOY ’ S CHALLEN GER to win the Juvenile Class at Grenada , Mississippi , over a large field of competitors .
Forrest City , Arkansas , had an outstanding show with well filled classes on June 2 . Joe Webb won the Junior Class with PERFEC TION ’ S REFLECTION . GO BOY ’ S MILLIONAIRE made an excellent show to win the Ladies ’ Class for Sis Hardy of Cleveland ( one of our local stables ). Katherine Bailey took two blues with her MARK OF GO BOY , the Juvenile Class and the Equitation Class , while Russell Pate won the Stake on GO BOY ’ S RIVER ROAD , owned by J . H . Pensburg , with Joe Webb finishing a close second on PERFEC TION ’ S REMEDY for Porter Rodgers , Jr .
Graham Bramlett ’ s new stallion , SHADOW ’ S VALENTINE , won the Amateur Class in Charleston , Mississippi , on May 26 . All of the Bramletts from Bobo , Mississippi , ride and show , and the three girls , Gay , Betsy , and Jamie are top competitors in Juvenile and Equitation classes . Jamie ’ s love is her pleasure pony , GO BOY ’ S FIRE CRACKER , who has won blues in pleasure classes all over the South .
I ’ m sorry that I didn ’ t have more news for you this month , but I promise that I will more than make up for it next time .
