TE NNESJEE MU INC H(f j)RS£ FEBRUARY, 1964 WINTER HAVEN SHOW (Contd.) just a few miles from Winter Ha ven. Paul said they made over sixty shows last year and plan to make the rounds again this sea son. They made a good start by winning the two year old class and the Walking Stallions and Geld ings class at this first show. Mr. and Mrs. V. G. Gochneaur from Aurora, Ohio, have two horses to really brag about SUN’S GO BOY AGAIN and SHADOW’S BLAZE, a stallion and mare that are both champions of the big ring in Shelbyville. Mr. Gochneaur tied blue in the Amateur Mare Class in Winter Haven, and this writer predicts many more of the same this coming season. An afternoon spent in Orlando, Florida, at the farm of Mr. Floyd Purcell was most enjoyable. Mr. Purcell has some well-bred stock on his farm and is continuing to breed good mares to produce colts that are born to walk. The well- known JUNE SUN is standing at his farm along with MIDNIGHT NEW YEARS and a LAST CHANCE stallion. He has quite a few good-looking coming two year old colts and several yearlings. His stable is working show horses daily, the most impressive being a six year old bay stallion, GO BOY’S REVENUE. Mr. Purcell made a very thrilling ride on this stallion at the show. This is a real “show hoss,” the kind that enters the ring shaking his head and walks out high in the money every time. Dr. E. B. Sliger of Fort Ogle thorpe, Georgia, a new-comer to the Walking Horse business, was also in Winter Haven with trainer Billy Brantley of Battleground Stables, and his new two-year-old stallion, SETTING SUN’S APOLLO. Mr. Brantley also im pressed the spectators with SUN DUSTER, a bold-going junior stal lion owned by the B and F Cor poration of Fort Oglethorpe, Geor gia. We are always happy to greet new horse owners to the Walking Horse world and wish Dr. and Mrs. Sliger every success and many thrills in the months to come. Mr. Ed Street of Johnson City, Tennessee and his MIDNIGHT SUNSTREAK carried home two blue ribbons from the Amateur Walking Stallion and Gelding Class and the Amateur Stake. Also very much in evidence were Mr. Boyd Hudgins and his charm ing wife from Macon, Georgia., They carried home four blues from Winter Haven, so they will be top contenders this year. Little Mer rill Talbot and MERRY BOY’S SON won the blue in the Ladies Walking Horse Class and the same gelding won the stake with Boyd, up. A very pleased little girl was walking her horse after the stake class on Sunday night with a horseshoe of yellow flowers around his neck.
