in the Mare Class and winning over 12 blue ribbons. This 5 year old Chestnut mare is certainly one of the better mares showing this year. Dr. Marshall Carrier the owner ex pects great things at the Celebra tion, as does trainer George Witt. Another horse in his stable is DUSTY’S BEST CHANCE a three year old, also owned by Dr. Car rier. This fine chestnut stallion is by SUN DUST out of a MERRY GO BOY MARE. He has been shown only 2 times this year but took home the “Blue Ribbon” each time. Dr. Pat Hamm of Huntsville, has a top 2 year old stallion with George Witt for training and show ing, by the name of INVASION’S SIR GUY. This colt was sired by Dr. Hamm’s own champion stallion, GO BOY’S INVASION and out of a MERRY BOY MARE. SIR GUY will be shown at the Celebration and should be one of the top two year olds. George Witt is an experienced trainer with a trunk full of blue ribbons to his credit. From the looks of the fine horses in his barn this year, he shall continue to be a “trainer of champions.” The New And Improved HUMANE TAIL U. S. TURNER FARMS Broadway, Virginia AUGUST, 1964 BATTLEGROUND STABLES Around the Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama circuits this year, Battleground Stables, of Fort Ogle thorpe, Georgia, has been very much in evidence. Trainer Billy Brantley has made a good season on a string of two year olds and junior horses that he, himself has started and made. Heading the list is SETTING SUN’S APOLLO, owned by Dr. and Mrs. Eugene B. Sliger of Fort Oglethorpe, the re markable two year old colt that has captured the fancy of Walking Horse lovers everywhere. APOL LO, thus far has an unbroken string-of blues and Billy hopes to carry this record on through the Celebration. Another top two year old that is Celebration bound is GO BOY’S FIRST LADY, a ryth mical black filly owned by Mr. and Mrs. L. O. “Sheriff” Ledford of Rossville, Georgia. She started the season like thunder, winning at every step, and is beginning to reach a peak for the big show. SUN DUSTER, one of the most out standing Junior horses around, will certainly make himself known in his class. This is a big horse that Billy held out last year to let him develope. He hits a most remarka ble lick that makes most people look twice. “DUSTY” is owned by Friend and Brantley of Chatta nooga and Fort Oglethorpe. Dr. E. B. Quinton of Rossville and W. Keith Kropp of Signal Mountain will be the Amateur contenders from Battleground. Dr. Quinton on his SUN’S PEACOCK and Mr. Kropp on PRIDE OF DECATUR. Little Susie Kropp will ride in the Juvenile Class on her SIR HENRY’S LADY LEE. Perhaps a surprise is in the mak ing with a new horse now in train ing at Battleground. Mr. E. C. Fin ney of McKeesport, Pennsylvania has just recently brought MOLY HOSES, a terrific chestnut roan stallion to Billy and the two should get along well together. Whether or not he will be in the “big show” remains to be seen. Another Finny owned horse now in training with Billy, is SHADOW’S HEIR, one of the most alert and beauti ful bay studs around.
