ville is named in memory of the famous country music singer whom we all remember. The big hoss is living up to his namesakes reputa tion for greatness and has won a total of eight or nine blues this year. He is a black . . . black stal lion and should prove to be a worthy contender for the blue. Dickie will also ride a top mare in the age mare class. Owned by the Double J Farms of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, this mare has been with Dickie for only thirty days but has been shown three times to win three blues. We can look for ward to again seeing Linda Robin son riding her famous GO BOY’S CHALLENGER in the big ring. Linda, who is from West Point, Mississippi, has shown “Challen ger” to nine blues this year. She was a Mid-South Horse Show As sociation winner last year and will probably make a strong bid for top honors in her class again this year. In the Two Year old class we will see Dickie up on GO BOY’S DES TINY, a black stallion owned by the Circle R Stables that is getting better every time he enters the ring. Watch for Dickie Pate boys! He could pull some surprises in several classes. WHITE STAR FARMS REGISTERED TENNESSEE WALKING HORSES DOUGLAS WOLAVER STABLES Celebration bound . . . and again with a top stable of horses is the popular Douglas Wolaver. This young trainer, winner of the big stake in 1960 on MACK K’S HANDSHAKER, will have several top horses in the big show this year. Doug, who is famous for his ability to come up with a winner, almost as if he “pulled ’em out of a hat”, will aim at the big one with COTTON QUEENS GO BOY, the 1962 World Champion Two Year Old C.Q. GO BOY is owned by Bob Quinn of Savannah, Tennessee and is typical of the “Wolaver” stock. I hear that this horse is getting bet ter with age and is hitting a bigger lick than ever. Doug will also make a strong bid for the blue in the Junior Stake on his 1963 World Champion Two Year Old, GO BOY’S STARFIRE. He has won three blues on this horse so far this year and observers say that he will be in there without a doubt. In the two year old classes, we will see the Wolaver Stables represent ed on HANDSHAKERS KAY, a terrific black filly and HAND SHAKERS COPY, a big-going stud that recently made his first show and won the respect of several who have been showing all year. ROYAL OAK FARM Lee Anderson, trainer for Royal Oak Farms of Tullahoma, Tennes see, ably assisted by his young son Kenneth, has his work cut out for him over the next few months. We hear that a new stable is in the plans here and that several top horses are being eyed by backers of Royal Oaks. At the Celebration we will see several juvenile and amateur exhibitors working out of this stable. Among them are: Steve Hawkersmith, who will ride LIT TLE SURPRISE for Raines and Hawkersmith of Tullahoma and Kenneth Anderson, who will ride JAKE’S GLAMOUR BOY for Jones and Anderson. Kenneth will also show TOMBSTONE JR. for Dr. James M. King and Sally King will exhibit her two mares named SHADOW’S SUN GODDESS and PATCH OF GLORY in two classes. At present, Lee Anderson is riding 6 two year old colts in addition to working the many amateur horses in the Royal Oak Farm Stable. CHARLIE MARTIN STABLES As usual, we can depend on Charlie Martin to unload some mighty good horses at the Shelby- ville Classic.
