COTTON QUEENS GO BOY, owned by Wolaver Sta bles and Bob Guinn, is ready for all of the major classes and stakes this year. The 1962 Junior World’s Champion placed fifth in the 1963 Championship stake at the National Celebration. The flashy strawberry roan, GO BOY’S STARFIRE, win ner of the 1962 two-year-old stake, looks as he flies around the track, getting ready for competition in 1964. MACK K’S HANDSHAKER. World’s Grand Champion in 1903. has been retired to stud and i ; standing at the Wolaver Stab;; Doug is also training several other good horses for the 1964 season and will be ready to meet the best when the gates open. * * If these accounts of what is going on at the stables excite you, let us prescribe for you a day of Barn Storming in person. It will be “good for what ails you.” ALETHA WIEHL (Continued From Page 40) Bob has been riding SECRET VENTURE all winter. To quote him, “He is a powerful beauty. He is the gliding type with a lot of head motion. I was able to see the McFarland horses, THE IMPALA and QUEEN BEE win their classes at the celebration. They showed MIDNIGHT SECRET to a few of us out at Harold Wises’ stables, and I go about the countryside here in Montana on SECRET VEN TURE imagining that we are per forming like Kay McFarland and her blacks. When the sun comes out and I can watch the shadow I get the idea that maybe the horses have an identical appear ance. I’ve known for a long time that riding a Walking horse gets a Persons’ ego up a bit. VENTURE will certainly be good for the Walking horse interest around here. Most people care little about HEY JOE, our old sire, until they ride him. Almost always after the Jide, the same people ask, “Is Joe for sale?” But just having SECRET VENTURE to look at has done a lot for the local interest in Walk ing Horses. T that brings us to “HEY > the gentleman everyone loves, who happens to be a horse. As you see him standing in his big round-pole corral, if you were in a hurry, you might pass by him without a second glance. You might. But, if you know horses at all, I doubt it. For, he has “some- thing about him.” Bob Keyser springs on him and HEY JOE’S walking before he hits the sad dle. Yet, Laura, Kim, Robbie, and Danny “takes turns” riding him, tug, and pull, and scramble around and over him. They are good little riders, but they are very little ri ders, and HEY JOE is a stallion. But, he takes cares of them. He is an understanding horse, and he loves people. He knows his job, which happens to be anything any one can think of to ask of him, and he does it. Quietly. Willingly. This is a happy horse. These are happy people. We were in a hurry, un fortunately, and couldn’t take time to ride HEY JOE. Robbie found this hard to understand. Don’t they like our horse? — Everybody rides HEY JOE!” Yes, Robbie. We liked your horse. He’s the kind of horse we would like to produce by the hun dreds for people who want a real pleasure horse. He’s the type of Walker that made people want to own a Tennessee Walking Horse. He’s the kind of horse somebody will travel across a state or two just to ride. We’re coming back some day, Robbie, and^ h°P® you’ll invite us to ride HEY JOE again, because we’re planning on it.
