September, 1963 have this year, we bought him from Mr. Dean and brought him here for Mr. Paschal to finish his training and begin showing him. Exactly nine months later, to the day, SUN’S DELIGHT was the World’s Grand Champion. I don’t think you can beat that record.” Mr. Escue emphasized that he and Sam Paschal set out with the definite objective of obtaining the horse that would enable them to win the World’s Grand Championship this year. The proud owner affirmed, “It was strictly the good judgement of Mr. Sam Pas chal that led us to buy SUN’S DE LIGHT, and I am sure that it was his hard work and his expert handling of the horse that made this judgment work out right last night. When many people asked Sam Thursday night, whether his horse could make another great show on Saturday night, he re plied ‘Well, of course, I don’t know. Not only is he a splendid individual, but he is also the result of a forty- five-year breeding program which Mr. A. S. Dean has carried on. He has worked through a four-generation cross to produce SUN’S DELIGHT, and this horse now has the greatest blood lines in the world. When they arc bred right, they will walk right. SUN’S DELIGHT has proved that he can walk, and his blood lines indicate that he will sire colts that will walk.” Escue’s Tribute to Paschal Having listened to this discussion of the greatness of his horse, Fray Escue entered the conversation to pay a most remarkable tribute to Sam Paschal: “We all know that it takes a com bination of several things to make a World’s Grand Champion. Of course, it takes a horse of the quality that Sam has been describing. Then, it takes a trainer like Sam Paschal, one who has worked with the horse every morn ing throughout the nine months that he has had him. SUN’S DELIGHT has received his expert care and at H0RSE tention ever)' day. But besides being a great trainer, Sam P
