A new worlds record for the sale of a yearling Tennessee Walking filly was established when Don Decker , of Omaha , Nebraska , paid Steve Hill , of Beech Grove , Tennessee , $ 5,500 for his World ’ s Champion yearling GO BOY ’ S LULU . This beautiful filly also was awarded the blue ribbon in her class at the Breeders ’ Association National Futurity , held Saturday night , August 31 . She is by MERRY GO BOY out of a mare by MIDNIGHT SUN and is thus the result of the crossing of the two most renowned bloodlines in the modern history of the Tennessee Walking Horse .
Among other notable sales at this auction were : a two-year-old stallion by MACK K ’ S HANDSHAKER , sold by Zollie Derryberry to Wallace Brandon for a bid of $ 5,500 ; a MIDNIGHT SUN marc and her colt by MERRY GO BOY , sold by J . C . Ford to Lyle Cashion , Jr ., for a bid of $ 3,700 ; a yearling colt sired by MERRY GO BOY , sold for a bid of $ 3,500 .
The sale of Show Ring Champions is expected to become an annual highlight of Celebration Week in Shelbyville .
