DEDICATION OF 1963 FUTURITY TO
DR. W. FRANK FESSEY PRECEDES SHOW
An impressive ceremony—dedicating
the Silver Anniversary' of the Breeders’
National Futurity in honor of Dr. W.
Frank Fesscy of Nashville—served as a
fitting prelude to competition that
reached a new all-time high in the 25-
year-history of the Futurity. A crowd
of between 6,000 and 7,000 persons
thronged the Celebration Grounds for
this signal event on Saturday night,
August 31, immediately prior to start
of the National Celebration twenty-
four hours later.
Dr. Fessey—who led the eight-man
group that originally incorporated the
Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’
Association of America and secured its
charter as an “eleemosynary” (devoted
to charitable purposes) association for
the betterment of the breed—sat in the
stands as his service was extolled by
Former Governor Buford Ellington.
The former Governor was presented by
Executive Secretary H. Tom Fulton,
who said that Dr. Fessey had served
continuously on the board of directors
and executive committee without mis
sing a meeting.
Both speakers called Dr. Fessey’s
contribution to the association a lasting
monument of service—and expressed
the appreciation of all who love the
Tennessee Walking Horse to this noted
physician who has given so much of
his time, talent and resources to help
promote the breed.
