Horse Show On TV
Plans for a televised Tennessee Walking Horse Exhibition in a horse show at Evansville , Ind . on Sunday , July 28 , at 2 p . m . are being perfected by Editor Ben A . Green of the Voice He said Operations Manager Ulysses Carlini of Station WTVW ( a high frequency outfit with a 75-mile daytime radius ) asked him to promote the show in the name of the Voice of the Tennessee Walking Horse . Carlini is a Walking Horse fan and his 2 and 1-2-year-old daughter can identify all horses pictured in the Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse .
Green said the cast for the Walking Horse segment has been selected — and will be announced in the April Voice . He may charter a Southern Airways plane from Shelbyville to Evansville and return with officials of the National Celebration , the Tennessee Walking Horses Breeder ' s and Exhibitor ' s Assn ., newsmen , radiomen , and others with a stop at Birmingham enroute .
Steps are being taken to make certain that the Tennessee Walking Horse segment of this show can be telecast nationwide on the ABC network two or three Sundays before the National Celebration that is scheduled Sept . 1-7 . Up-to-the minute reports on this unprecedented Tennessee Walking Horse promotion plan will be given in each issue of the Voice .
She Liked January
Adele F . MacKay , c / o General Delivery , Manasquan fired us a SI bill for two extra copies of January '— saying she liked the information on horse grooming , etc . in that issue . She told about a habit her Del ’ s Roan Allen has — kicking the right side of the stall when he is receiving anything to eat . She says it damages the stall and may hurt the horse .
The owner of the stable put a strap about 3 inches wide — fleece lined — with a chain with about one inch links and a foot long — around the horse ’ s leg , just below the cannon joint . Now the horse lifts his leg and puts it down again when he feels the chain , and does not kick . Adele wonders if that ’ s a good idea .
A trainer tells us it is a good idea — and stands less chance of injuring the horse than some other means of breaking bad habits . Adele wants an article discussing old methods of horse treatment — such as using tobacco against worms . We will be glad to have such an article from a competent source . ( BAG )
