Works TWH In Trials , And They Are Excellent
Martha Baynard of Rural Route 1 , Box 111 , Dover , Delaware , says they use Tennessee Walking Horses in the fall and spring for working bird dogs in field trials “ and have found them to be excellent in covering ground , scouting dogs over and through any kind of country and quickly adapting themselves to dogs , birds , guns , etc .”
She says all seven horse shows in the Combined Eastern Shore Horse Show Assn , have Tennessee Walking Horse classes . The Baynards ’ Walking Horse won 4th place for overall high points in the TWH Division and won the pleasure class championship for 1962 . Their pride and joy is a big bay gelding , by Midnight Sun .

“ It ' s sad news and good netos ,” said Grand Ole Opry Star Hatckshaic Hawkins to talented vocalist Wilma Lee Cooper Saturday night , March 2 , at this famous Country Music show before 4,000 people in Nashville “ My favorite Tennessee W^k ng Horse died — Romeo Allen ,” said Hawkshaw , “ Bought him two years ago for $ 2,500 and wouldn ’ t , have taken $ 10,000 for him . He icon third in the 4-Year-Old Stake last year at Ellington Center , Nashville , in his very first show . I planned to enter him in the Celebration at Shelbyville ,” the six-foot-six singer went on . “ He was ridden by J . D . Hall .” ( a Voice advertiser ). “ There ’ s good news too ,” confided Haickshaw . “ Jean ( Grand Ole Opry Star Jean Shepard and Hawkshaw ’ s wife ), will have her baby soon .” “ And I have ‘ good neics also ,’ said the beauteous W ’ lma Lee and she told how her daughter , Carol Lee , and Jimmy Snow were conducting a revival in Arkansas .” Hawshaw said he was finishing a 15-stall barn , has 7 Tennessee Walking Horses on hand note and is ready to get into the business “ in a b ’ g way .” Anything ’ s bound to be big with Hawkshaw — a one time West Virginia hill-climber .
The above lines were ivritten March 4 , 1963 . Hawkshatc teas killed in an airplane accident March 6 that took the lives of three other Opry personalities , Cowboy Copas , Patsy Cline and her personal manager , Randy Hughes . The Voice Editor was greatly grieved at their passing . He loves all Country Music People , he once edited Country & Western Jamboree , and icrote Grand Ole Opry stories for the Nashville Banner . A fifth Opry figure , Jack Anglin , was killed in an auto accident while driving his car alone to Patsy Cline ’ s memorial services in East Nashville . We sympathize with the big Country Music World .
