$ 14,000 Purse Breeders ' Futurity Booked For August 31 , 1963

In A Night Show Expected To Be Held Celebration Grounds
A $ 14,000 Purse National Futurity for the Tennessee Walking — something beyond the most eloquent dreams of mankind a short 5 years ago — is scheduled to take place Saturday night , Aug . 31 , as a fitting prelude to Lhe 25th Anniversary Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration at Shelbyville , Tenn .
It was revealed by officials of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder ' s & Exhibitor ’ s Assn , of America , Inc ., that the prize money for this event has already passed $ 12,000 — is likely to reach S 14,000 .
Exact details of the showing have not been completed — but it is taken for granted that this record-breaking event with the thrilling prospect will take place at the Celebration Ground — where it is certain to attract the most horses and the most people . Prize money is increased with the eiitry fees — and also substantial aid has come through the help of interested persons in the state and association and elsewhere .
Nominations Surpass Records
Nominations for the Futurity — according to Executive Secretary H . Tom Ful Lon of the Breeders Assn . - far surpass all previous record . He said : " When the deadline for nominations arrived April 9 we had :
176 mares nominated , 79 yearlings nominated , 39 two-year-olds nominated , 29 stallions nominated ; weanlings must be nominated by Aug . 15 .
Mr . Fulton pointed out that the National Futurity for 1963 vastly surpasses the fu turies of previous years — trailing through the history of the association to its inception in 1935 — and also will be the largest “ cash ” futurity ever held by any horse breed in the Southern region of the United States .
Last year the show was entirely free to the public and started at 7:30 p . m . in L h e commodious Celebration Grounds . The same rules are expected to apply this year with thousands seated in the concrete stands . Some 289 additional boxes ( each with G seats ) have been added to the Celebration ’ s seating capacity at the north end of the 300-foot track that is 150 feet wide .
Judge To Be Selected Official judge for the National Futurity is yet to be announced .
Rules of the Futurity are generally known and understood by veteran breeders but some newcomers to the industry may not fully understand them . Simply , the rules are :
Six classes are listed , weanlings , yearlings and two-year-olds , each sex separately .
Colts to be shown must be owned by the exhibitor and the owner must carry out all provisions and rulings as set out on the reverse side of official entry blanks .
