April, 1963 4 Shelbyville PTA Show, ‘Mother Of Celebration,’ Scheduled May 25 The 31st annual Shelbyville PTA Horse show — regarded by some as “The Mother of the National Cele­ bration'—will be held Saturday, May 25, at the Celebration Grounds with the first event at 7 p.m. Mrs. Barbara X. Tilford, Horse Show Chairman, said Carl Edwards of Quincy, Fla., will be the Walking Horse judge and Raymond Shively ol Meadow Brook Farm, Joelton, Tenn., will judge the gaited classes. Edwards rode Old Glory's Big Man to everlast­ ing glory and the World’s Grand Championship for the J. T. Budd Cigar Co. in the 1951 National Cele­ bration. The PTA Show is believed to be the nation's oldest conlinous show in which the Tennessee Walking Horse is definitely featured. The nearby Lewisburg Show takes place on Fridav night, May 2-1. Classes lor this breed at the I9G3 PTA show will include seven. There will be four gaited classes, one fine harness, and one for roadster horses in the 14-event show. This PTA Show preceded the incep­ tion ol the Celebration by six years —and it is the only fund-raising activ­ ity staged by the Shelbyville City Schools Parent-Teacher Assn. Post entries are pennilted. Information about the show can lie obtained from Mrs. Tilford, Route 5, Shelbyville.
