Ensmingers Plan Horse Science School — Short Courses

A dedicated enterprise that should carry the “ bright beam of inspiring light horse knowledge to this entire nation ," is on the schedule for 1963 announced by Dr . and Mrs . M . E . Ensminger of P . O . Box 373 , Clovis , California .

WSU-author of numerous articles and books on the general subject of horses , for 25 years an educator and surely one of the most inspiring forces in the nation ’ s burgeoning interest in light horses .

The Voice has previously made mention of Dr . Ensminger , has quoted him in editorials ( see Page 1 in this issue ), and believes he is a sort of “ answer to prayer ” for the Americans of today who are " panting ” for real facts about the light horses of America . We hope Dr . Ensminger will get into close contact with the growing number of Americans who love the Tennessee Walking Horse .

His plan to spread the word next year includes the following :

( 1 ) — A 12-day Horse Science School in California : with a 4-day Horse Science Short Course during the second week .

( 2 ) — This 4-day Horse Science Course will also take the road and be presented at three different locations : i . e ., California in the last half of June : in the Central States , Iowa , during the first half of July : and in the East , Pennsylvania , during the last half of July .

In announcing this fruitful plan Dr . Ensminger tells us :

" The Horse Science School will be of interest to all horsemen and horselovers : it will carry college credit for those eligible and interested : anyone between the ages of 1 and 100 wanting to learn more about horses may enroll ; chaperones will be provided for boys and girls under 16 unless accompanied by their parents .

" Instruction at the school will include equitation : farrier ( horseshoeing ) science : horse health , disease prevention , and parasite control ; selecting and judging ; and breeding , feeding , care and management . Instruction will cover 108 class hours of lectures and laboratories will be available ."

The 4-Day Short Course will be a cram-session for larger and more experienced breeders . horse farm supervisors , study managers and those engaged in related horse service and industries : there will be 32 different lectures , laboratories and seminars ; an eminent staff will present an interpretation and application of the latest in horse research and current developments ." “ Stump-the-experts " evening sessions will be arranged for discussion of individual problems .

The doctor says there will be selected lectures published in an attractive , hard-backed book known as the Horse Sceince Handbook — providing " invaluable and up-to-the-minute reference material .”
