Lloyd Kelley Owned Little Man
Lloyd Kelley P. O. Box 107 Inglis, Fla., used to live in Tennessee, he tells us.“ I have been out of touch with Tennessee for a long time,” he writes.“ I lived there for two years and used to own that great pony, Little Man, the Garretts used to show.”( Editor’ s Note— Lloyd I believe your Little Man was the one listed in Vol. IV of the Breeders ' Assn, stud books. He is listed as: LITTLE MAN— 421082, property of C. J. Fulks, Shelbyville, Tenn. Bay horse; near hind and both fore socks; foaled June 17, 1942; bred by owner. SIRE, Dandy Boy Allen 370135; DAM, Voodoo 390829. There is another horse known as Little Man H. shown in Vol. II, property of J. A. Hendrixson, Manchester, Tenn., sired by Last Chance out of Ruby Helm Allen. Often in registrations the same names are used for two horses but an initial shows the difference. a * *

Dentist Tells Of California Trek With Tenn, Walker

Dr. William M. Marking, a dentist, 4050 Acacia Ave., Bonita, Calif., is one of the " original patrons " of what we now call the Ben A. Green Publications( books, brochures and a magazine). He told us in a recent letter about his discovery of the Tennessee Walker. You will enjoy this confidential report:
“ While on an assignment with the Navy in Memphis several years ago I became infected with the Walking Horse fever. It was rather easy for me to contract since I myself was foaled on a Wyoming cattle ranch and grew up with horses and whiteface Herefords.
" The transition to the easy gait of the Walking Horse was a natural for a busy dentist who is no longer interested in starting quick, stopping fast or turning on a dime. I selected a young mare and had her bred to Go Boy’ s Shadow by the late Mr.( Winston) Wiser. Upon being transferred to San Diego, I purchased a horse trailer and boiled it to my Mercedes sports car.
“ We made the long trek to California just one year ago. Every four hours I stopped, took the mare out of the trailer, exercised her and gave her water. It was all worth while, as I have had many pleasant hours in the saddle, plus the recent arrival of the most beautiful little blue-roan filly any Walking Horse enthusiast could hope to possess.”
( Note— Doctor, you really know how to travel with a horse. It is mighty important to exercise the horse every few hours— just as it is important for folks to stop at filling stations. Some people transporting horses are not as kind to them as you were to your mare. In our training book we have some special ideas on how amateurs who travel with horses should take care of them. We enjoyed your report. It inspires us in a quiet, sustained sort of way. Many thanks. BAG.)
Her Horse Paces Too Much
In ordering our training book Mrs. Frances( M. J.) Lindloff, 924 Sunset Drive, Fayetteville, Ark., wants“ some help as to what to do with a horse that paces too much and what to do to develop a smooth canter.”( We will try to help her. Often the case calls for a series of things to do rather than just a single step. That’ s why it’ s called“ training " I guess. BAG.)
