Dr. Poteat— A“ Superb” Fellow
Among all the letters received from people who read our book and read our Issue No. 1 of the Voice— we believe one from Dr. Hubert M. Poteat, Jr., of Smithfield, North Carolina, hits us as close lo the heart as anyone. We remember his eloquent letter of months ago about the book. Now he says:
“ I wrote you several months ago after I read your very interesting book on the history of the Tennessee Walking Horse and I must say that your editorials and news stories in the first issue of this magazine are simply superb. I received the copy of this magazine when I arrived in my office this afternoon, and I’ m afraid I have kept a number of my patients waiting while I read some of the fascinating stories that you have recorded here.
" I am in the Tennessee Walking Horse business to a very limited degree. I have a stallion and five mares and thoroughly enjoy them. I have Go Boy’ s Rebel, son of Merry Go Boy for my stallion and am tremendously pleased with him....
“ Again, my congratulations to you and Mrs. Green..
( Note— Doctor, you have been more of an inspiration than you know. When your letter about the book came last summer I hurried it by mail to Mary Frances( then a widow and a postmaster at Knoxville, Ala.) We were married a few weeks later and your letter became lost except in my memory.
Mary Frances and I have known each other-10 years. Had not seen each other for some 20 years. She is my Sister ' s best friend. After my first wife, Bunnie, died Aug. 11, 1960, 1 received a letter of sympathy from Mary Frances who had lost her husband the previous Christmas. So I thanked her, so more letters came and went— and here we are at 1110 S. Brittain St. Thanks indeed for your generous letter. BAG.)
Suggestions From C. H. Turner
We recommend C. H. Turner of 3295 Woodhave Rd., Memphis, 8, Tenn., for having a good typewriter, a good typist( perhaps himself) and some good ideas. He suggests for the Voice“( 1) Information about training. Insofar as I know there is a paucity of published information about this subject.( 2) Detailed information about individual horses, including the more personal details.( 3) Show schedules around the South.”
And he adds a real good idea with“ Keep up the good work, and there is only one suggestion for improvement of the publication— more advertisements so we nice Walking Horse owners will know where to find the equipment and supplies which we need.”( Note— That last idea is especially good. Hope our equipment dealers will see it and take note. BAG.)
Interesl In California
Anthony W. Kriebel, 12 Anderson Way, Menlo Park, Calif, reports“ there’ s considerable new interest out here on my favorite horse—‘ Walkers’.”
( So we heard, and considerable subscribers for the Voice too. Anthony ' s on the list. BAG.)
