Check [ Broodmares
( Continued From Page 7) ice to the small interested breeder at a fair fee.
Finally, let us study the pedigrees of our broodmares. See the foals from various stallions and note the similarity of the foal to the dam. Observe closely as to whether the stallion is prepotent enough to transmit his own outstanding characteristics to his colts. Next study the colts from mares with dissimilar bloodlines, noting which family crosses best with your chosen sire. Then breed your favorite mare— we all have one or two. Wait 11 months expectantly and hope you’ ve bred the best Tennessee Walker ever foaled! At least you have accomplished in your own mind, nature’ s miracle.
Poet Walter Emery Gives Us A Salute
Mary Frances opened about 20-odd letters on Monday, June 4, and sent a shout my way. A poem dedicated to the Voice Editor had walked right into the living room. It is from a mighty good friend, Walter Emery of Gulf Shores, Miss,( and Birmingham, Ala.) Walter is what you would call a“ natural born rime writer” and he can do the job on any subject. Here’ s what he dedicated“ to Ben Green, Author of the Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse.”
Your friends are very happy, Ben. When you announced the dates Of mailing your new magazine Throughout so many states.
Your interest in the Walking Horse As they are bred today, Is something you have longed to shave And now you have a way.
You are so very thoughtful, Ben, In everything you do; I feel that your success is sure And you will win this through.
I’ d like to make a strong appeal To lovers of the breed To send to you material: It’ s their support you need.
So now old horsemen( young ones too), Get out your ink and pen And write of some experience— And send it in to Ben.
It’ s possible you know a cure For common faults or ills; That you know how to treat the thing Without the use of pills.
If Ben should print your article For other folks to see, Your friends will know you ' re generous— As eveiy man should be.
