4 July, 1962 Great Sires, Dams Shown In Circle T Pedigrees
( Continued from Page 3) I ' he lasl two were half sister and brother in that they were sired by Allan F-I out of Gertrude and Nellie( a Hal descendant) respectively.
The dam of Sun’ s Quarterback was Allen ' s Little Joe’ s Dimple, by Allen ' s Little Joe out of Little Joe’ s Joan. Hunter’ s Allen F-10 sired Allen ' s Little Joe out of Stegall’ s Lou. Allen ' s Little Joe sired Little Joe ' s Joan out of Gallant June. So we find intensive breeding on both sides of Quarterback’ s pedigree.
Tensa’ s Gypsy Girl, the dam of Triple Threat, was sired by Wartrace out of Jennette Lightfoot. Wartrace was sired by Wilson’ s Allen out of Nancy Patton. And Nanq ' Patton was a daughter of Mabery Allen out of Dollie Patton.
The dam of Gypsy Girl, Jennette Lightfoot, was sired by Walker ' s Allen, by Hunter’ s Allen F-10 out of Carrie. Jennette ' s dam was Bell Eaton, sired by Frank out of Bessie.
Triple Threat ' s‘ Tremendous Lick " Triple Threat attracted much attention as he became a frequent exhibitor on the Southwest Circuit under the Circle T emblem. He was recognized as a well-organized horse with a truly“ tremendous lick " at the Walking Horse’ s famous running walk gait. This horse is certain to pick up additional followers at major shows during the latter part of the season.
Shadow’ s Gay Lady— i d e n t i f i e d earlier in this article as one of the Twin Constellations— has been ridden to fame this season under a new name. The mare was originally registered as Lady Gay Shadow by her breeder, the late E. H. Padgett of Wartrace and Miami, Fla. She was foaled at Sunrise Acres( Wartrace) and sired by Go Boy’ s Shadow out of Stately ' s Gay Lady.
The 3-year-old mare ' s dam was sired by Statley Allen, by Roan Allen Again, by Brantley’ s Roan Allen. The dam of Stately Allen was Lady Star Allen, by Bud Allen out of Nell Talley. Bud Allen, incidentally, tvas a great son produced by the mating of Mitch F-5, owned by the late W. Henry Davis, and Merry Legs F-4 on the farm of the late A. M. Dement.
Stately’ s Gay Lady’ s dam was Till ' s Rosanelle by Joe Rutherford, by Joe McWhorters. Joe Rutherford ' s dam was Nell McWhorters. Joe McWhorters was a son of McCurdy’ s Doctor F-79— prominent in the strain of the McCurdy horse family in Alabama breed history. Till ' s Rosanelle ' s dam was Johnnie Comer’ s Ethel by Joe McWhorters out of Mary.
Other Circle T Ranch mounts primed for competition at the Celebration and other major shows have similar inheritances of gaits, manners, intelligence, competitive stamina and bloom. They include the following:
Jet Away‘ World’ s Champion Gelding’
Go Boy’ s Jet Away, 8-year-old black gelding with near fore coronet. This horse was pictured in the June issue of this magazine with J. Glenn Turner up, receiving the Amateur championship blue ribbon at the Oklahoma City Horse Show.
This gelding is a " horse of history.” He was the 3-year-old World Champion Gelding at the 1957 Celebration when owned by the Davis Bros. Chevrolet Co. of Rome, Ga., and he placed Lhird in the Celebration Class for Geldings 4 Years Old and Over in 1958 when owned by Dr. and Mrs. John Linger of Santa Ana Calif.
Jet Away was sired by Merry Go Boy out of Miss Sid( Syd) and foaled at the history-famed establishment of J. R. Brantley & Son, Manchester, Tenn. on July 3, 1954.
This rugged competitor traces to Wilson Allen Again, by Wilson’ s Allen out of Bird Scott. The dam of Miss Sid was Dreamland Lady, by Roan Allen F-38 out of Moffitt’ s Snip.
Red Ace— Also A World’ s Champion At 3
Shadow’ s Red Ace, a striking chestnut stallion with a near fore coronet off hind, fetlock, strip and flax mane and tail has been one of the most colorful performers on the circuit. Fred Turner has ridden him since end of the college term. Red Ace is a veteran of Celebration showing, as he was Lhe World’ s Champion 3-Year- Old Stallion Class winner in 1960 and placed fourth in a Juvenile Class in 1961 with Fred Turner riding.
Red Ace was sired by Go Boy’ s Shadow out of Mau’ s Merry Widow. Heritage through his dam comes from the great Sir Maugray, a Wilson’ s Allen son out of Maude Gray on one side. On the other side of the family there is a rich strain from Mary Flower Girl, by Merry Boy out of
Mary Henderson. Mary was a daughter of Roan Allen F-38 out of Crockers Nola, a daughter of Allan F-l. Horse history as written often neglects the source of quality on the dam side— so vital in the heritage of any animal.
My Merry Shadow was pictured in the June issue of the Voice with Mrs. Mary Frances Turner receiving the trophy and blue ribbon for winning of the Ladies Class at the 1962 New Orleans Charity Horse Show.
This horse is a black mare with snip, foaled April 22, 1956, at the farm of J. A. Till, Hayneville, Ala. She was sired by Go Boy’ s Shadow out of Roan Allen ' s Linda Lou. This mare was sired by Roan Allen Again who was a son of a Brantley ' s Roan Allen out of Avis Allen. Linda Lou’ s dam was Streamline Lady who was sired by Lad Allen out of Lady May Taylor. This Lad Allen was a son of Lasl Chance out of Roxie, who was sired by Ben Puckett F-43.
These pedigrees are surely enough to demonstrate the platform upon which the Circle T Ranch“ team of show horses " has been built. It is surely solid— plank by plank. This dedication to great horses sired by great stallions out of great dams has given Circle T Ranch a distinction and recognition within a few short years that is difficult to attain often in a human being’ s lifetime.
Projection Of J. Glenn Turner’ s Shadow
To the writer it sort of stands as a projection of the shadow of J. Glenn Turner— the man who determined to find, develop and exhibit the best Tennessee Walking Horses he knew of living today— and obtainable for his purposes.
A Circle T Ranch favorite of previous years who will be missed by many at the 1962 Celebration is Sun’ s Regal Aire, favorite mount of Mr. Turner. This horse was ridden to second place in the Owner-Amateur Class at the 1960 Celebration and also placed third in a Juvenile Class that year. Last year Regal Aire placed sixLh in the Friday night Owner-Amateur event with riders 50 years old and older. After this contest Mr. Turner expressed the view tire horse did not handle as well as he had in past shows. Within 24 hours the horse was fatally stricken with colic in his stall
