Celebration spectators at the big show— starting Aug. 26 at Shelbyville— will see a horse ridden by Little
* Rock’ s, Nancy Lindsey, that was bought at the Murray Farm Sale( Lewisburg) and became one of the
% great Amateur Tennessee Walking Horses of this era for juvenile riders.
He is Go Boy’ s Jet, ridden to 40 blue ribbons and 17 second place ribbons in 66 times at shows by his owner. He took her to the Juvenile Walking Championship of the World in the 1960 Celebration.( Nancy is pictured in this issue winning the Shelbyville PTA women’ s class this year.)
The Voice Editor thinks this record is important in Murray Farm Sale History— it shows that a horse ' without an outstanding name or record( at the time) has been bought at this ttviceannual auction sale and subsequently carried to heights in the show ring.
Harold Wise has announced the Murray Farm Fall Sale is scheduled October 10-11, starting each day at 10 a. m. and running as long as necessary. A host of entries have already been received and more are expected.
The Voice Editor asked Nancy Lindsey to write her own story about Go Boy ' s Jet. Nancy is a special person in Shelbyville. She was stricken ill during the 1961 Celebration. Her father, Robert P. Lindsey, says a Shelbyville physician saved Nancy’ s life. She was returned to Little Rock by airplane after hospitalization in Shelbyville. This summer Nancy attended the University of Hawaii but is back home for the Celebration.
Nancy has written the following first person story of her life with Go Boy ' s Jet:
Go Boy ' s Jet, sired by Merry Go Boy, is out of Midnight Flower by k Midnight Sun. He is a beautiful black gelding, and stands 15 hands, 2 inches v tall. He has no markings,
Jet was raised on the R. F. Ellis Farm in Orville, Ala. When three years old, he was sold at the Murray Sale to Mr. Ned Wilfong of Eldorado, Ark. Mr. Wilfong rode him for two years as a pleasure horse in the field trials. When Jet was four he was gelded and placed in“ T " Burton’ s training barn.“ T " realized Jet’ s great

potential as a show horse. Mr. Wilfong said he didn’ t want a show horse, so Dr. R. B. Vanhorn of Minden, La., bought him.
Doctor Suggested Horse Hobby
In 1957 my father ' s doctor informed him that he had an ulcer. He suggested that Daddy get a hobby. Since we had been begging Daddy for a horse, he decided to buy one. The doctor said that would be fine provided Daddy also bought one for himself. He purchased a Walking pleasure mare who had been trained Western. My little sister Robin soon took her over. For himself he bought Giovanni ' s Ace, that he shared with me. We showed him at several local shows and did very well. When sve sold Ace to Mr. Bob Berry, we bought Merry Top Man. In 1959 I began showing him on the Southwest circuit in Juvenile and amateur classes. However, I decided I needed a better horse, if I wanted to be a top contender in hot amateur stakes.
In July of 1959 we went to the Minden horse show. It was there that we first saw Go Boy ' s Jet. He was then a five year old and had been shown only a few times. He was ridden in the grooms class. A week later Dad went to Minden and bought him. We placed him in training at Wallace Brandon Stables.
My first show on Jet was at Nacogdoches, Texas. It was the second time that I had ever ridden him. I was put in a three horse work-out with two world’ s champions; Sunday Bonnet and College Boy. I tied second to Sunday Bonnet, shown by W. T. Baynard. My next show was at the Celebration. I showed in the Tuesday night amateur class and placed second to Go Boy Again ridden by E. J. Flaccus. After the Celebration I went on to Bastrop, La., where I won the Ladies class and the Amateur Stake. I had been second six times before I finally won this blue. Next, Jet won three blues at the State Fair of Texas. My last show in 1959 was the Dixie jubilee, where I won the Amateur Gelding Class. During the winter Wallace worked him, getting him ready for the Southwest Circuit in 1960.
High Point Winner In Southwest
I began the 1960 show season at Beaumont, Texas. I won the Ladies and Amateur Stake. We continued our winning streak at Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Houston. I won six blues and one reserve to capture the High Point Award in the Amateur Walking Horse Division on the Southwest Circuit for 1960. During the summer I made several shows in Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee with great success. Wallace took Jet to Mississippi and won three big stakes. In August, at the National Celebration, I won the Juvenile Walking Horse Championship of the world. Afterwards, I went on to win Blues at Bastrop, Dallas, and the Dixie Jubilee.
In 1961 I made every amateur class I was eligible for on the entire Southwest Circuit. I won blues and three reserves. After Houston I entered the hospital for a lung operation. I was in for three months. While I was in the hospital, Wallace showed Jet in Mississippi. He won four open stakes. Daddy showed him once in Covington, Tenn., and won the Amateur Stake. I went to the Dixie Jubilee and Montgomery, Ala., but strickly as a spectator. During the winter we took the shoes off Jet and turned him out in the pasture. While he was getting stronger, so was I. In the spring we were both fresh and ready to go.
I began this show season at Huntbolt, Tenn., with a blue in the Amateur Stake. The next week I went to Beaumont where Jet won the Ladies and tied second in the Amateur Stake. Jet also won the Ladies Class at Little Rock, Lewisburg, and Shelbyville P. T. A. this year. At this writing that was his last show. He has won five and tied second once.
Since tve have owned Jet, I have shown him 66 times. I have been first 40 times and second 17. I have never been out of the money. All this has been a tremendous amount of fun for me. But I must give full credit to Wallace Brandon who trained him and kept him in perfect show shape these past three years. Also, it has brought Daddy and me much closer together.
