The BSO believes that access to symphonic music should be a fundamental right .

We have also long recognized that price and the perception of price are equally-real barriers to participation . This year , we continued several long-time and more recently established reduced-price ticket initiatives and engagement programs to enable greater access for students , young adults , and families .

Fanfare Under 40

Through Fanfare Under 40 , those ages 21-40 gained near-unlimited access to a season of BSO concerts for $ 99 . On average , our 357 Fanfare participants each attended eight BSO performances ( predominantly Classical ) at either venue .

Student Select

Our Student Select pass offered near-unlimited season access to students with valid student ID for just $ 35 , including a social experience with post-concert craft beer , special drinks , food , and entertainment .

Young & Free

A relatively new program , launched in 2018-19 , invited children ages 7-17 to attend any BSO Classical or SuperPops subscription concert ( at either the Meyerhoff or Strathmore ) at no cost to their parents or families .

Symphony in the City

A new pilot this year , Symphony in the City , sponsored by PNC Bank , considered program design and pricing for maximum reach and relevance . Based in the community , Symphony in the City is a free concert series designed to reach diverse audiences . Our pilot venues — the Baltimore Museum of Industry , New Psalmist Baptist Church , and Morgan State University — were spread throughout the city , and the performances featured artists from communities of color . The February 26 performance at Morgan State University ’ s Murphy Fine Arts Center was highlighted by the BSO conducting debut of Jonathan Rush — an engagement that led to his most recently announced two-year appointment as the BSO ’ s Assistant Conductor .
