Upper Mainland . A series of paintings from Jonathan Igharas exploring the strength of water in shaping the cityscape. Water is the basis of all life with the power to return civilization back into nature. This case study of the Lower Mainland of BC maps the veins of the city running above and under the surface. Jonathan took inspiration from archival maps of natural water ways that once existed in Vancouver and began layering aerial views of the urban development that built up around and overtop of them. The most prominent contrast is where water meets land dividing the painting horizontally. This line is softened by the drip marks representing the movement of water within the city.
