18KARAT’s 2013 Spring/Summer collection explores the connections that lie between our bodies, water and nature. Water is the lifeblood of the earth. It is ancient and unchanging. Our bodies are fed by it and all nature grows from it. But just as much as it has the ability to create it can also destroy. It erodes stone and cuts deep chasms into the earth. It continually shapes our world. ¶ Throughout history we have connected with water through vessels, whether cupped hands, bowls, jugs or cups. This collection is infused with ancient vessel shapes. The most repeated form is a small bowl that relates in scale to cupped human hands. This bowl is represented in a myriad of materials such as wood, metal, stone, clay, glass and natural fibres. Each one exploring an element of the earth.
