Theater in Cracow

The building of Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow was erected in the years 1891-1893. It was the first building in Krakow that had electric lightning. Initially it was named "Municipal Theatre", and in 1909 it took the name after Juliusz Słowacki.

Architecture:

The facade is enclosed in two projections stopped with allegorical figures: on the left: Poetry, Drama and Comedy (the author: Tadeusz Błotnicki), on the right - Music, Opera and Operetta (author: Alfred Daun). Below the corn there are allegorical busts of ,,Happiness and Sadness” (author: Mieczysław Zawiejski). On the front of the facade there is an inscription "Krakow National Art". At the top there are the statues of a young man in a robe (Tadeusz) and a young woman in a noble costume (Zosia) by Michał Korpal.

Interior:

An eclectic staircase leads to the foyer on the first floor. The stucco decoration was made by Alfred Putz. There is a monument of Stanisław Wyspiański by Bronisław Chromy, a bust of Karol Kruzer, and a plaque commemorating Jan Zawiejski. There are also busts of the creators of Polish theatre: Aleksander Fredro, Jan Nepomucen Kamiński and Wojciech Bogusławski. Originally, the theatre had 922 seats. After the reconstruction, the number of places was significantly reduced (the row spacing was increased, which resulted in the liquidation of several rows on the ground floor).
