Vincent lived from 1853 until 1890. He was born in The Netherlands. When he was a kid he went to a lot of schools. On the age of 16 he became a servant at a filial in The Hague of international art trade Goupil & Cie. After working in The Hague, he was sent to work for Goupil & Cie in London. Then he was sent to Paris, but after a short period he had to go back to London. In London he got a depression and that is why he was fired in 1876. Between 1876 and 1880 he lived in Belgium and The Netherlands and studied for different things.

In November he moved to Antwerpen. First, he was very lucky, but after that he got debts and became ill. Whole the time he and his brother Theo wrote letters to each other. In 1866 he left Antwerpen and went to Paris to live with Theo. That became too much for his health and he moved to Arles. At that place, he painted: The twelve sunflowers in a vase. Then he moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, close to Paris. That is also the place where he died. Rumours said that he did shot himself with a gun. He died next to his brother Theo. Vincent is on the 30th of July 1890 buried in Auvers-sur-Oise. Short after his death, died Theo as well. He was buried next to Vincent. Van Gogh left 850 paintings and around 1300 sketches behind, when he died. Now you can visit a lot of his paintings in the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.

That did not work out. So, in 1880 he went back to Brussel and wanted to become an artist. One year later, he came back to The Hague to live there until 1883. After that he moved to live with his parents in Nuenen. Around March 1885, his father died and that was a hard period for Vincent. Short after the death of his father he made his famous painting: The potato eaters.
