PHYSICS The UCC Physics and Astronomy Society looks after all things Physics in UCC. The societies aim is to promote Physics to students, and give them an opportunity to socialise with others interested in Physics. Physoc organises many talks throughout the year on a wide range of topics in Physics. These talks suit people with both a basic knowledge of Physics as well as a more advanced understanding. Naturally, milk and cookies are always provided! The society also plans star gazing nights where you can observe astronomical events through telescopes, [email protected] and rocket launches during a weekend trip, where everyone is invited. Last year, Physoc took a trip to Geneva, Switzerland to visit the CERN super collider. The society also holds social events, such as a ball, a formal, film screenings and quizzes.Other annual events include a ‘Students vs Lecturers’ competition, where students battle lecturers in a selection of physical and mental challenges. There’s also the Fermi Prize, a quiz where the competitors answer questions such as ‘How many standard rubik’s cubes would fit in an Olympic-sized swimming pool?’ uccphysoc uccphysoc PLANNING Have you an interest in the natural and built environments around you?
