This will give a different perspective to relook into and focus more on people . The attention should be given on leadership development for people development in terms of technology , program management , project management , skill development of the workmen , and safety awareness . This seems to be an efficient and cost-effective way to safe-guard future skills that are required for the energy sector . It has also been suggested that maybe if the young engineers , who are Tec savvy , have a sitting with the seniors , who have a lifetime yet conventional experience , to come together and bridge the gap . Through this sitting , the seniors ’ whole experience may be shared with the young engineers , who will be able to translate it into digital format . The analysis that was earlier treated manually may become faster and help the whole of the industry .
What is also essential to investigate is the shortage of human resources in the energy industry . Companies and governments should address this matter together . The industry is considered to be a “ dirty industry ”, due to its bad record of extensive cyclical layoffs in the past . This results in difficulty in attracting socially conscious new candidates and retaining existing engineers . Like , back in 2020 , the oil price crash led to the fastest layoffs in the history of O & G industry . Prices have doubled since then , but only 50 % of the lost jobs have been recovered . This cyclical hiring and laying off of employees is negatively impacting the industry ’ s reputation as a reliable employer , and tenured , aging workforce is decreasing the available talent pool . The labor market is very tight , and the cost of human resources is rising , therefore , there is a need of next level Staffing and Skilling to meet the foreseen market growth that would significantly impact a company ’ s bottom line .
