care the moment they arrive.
I’m so proud to have this world-class facility located in
my hometown of Edmonton.
Did you know that donors provided 1 in 4 dollars to help build
and equip the Maz? Today, thanks to you, it’s a state-of-the-art facility
completely dedicated to cardiovascular health.
Adults and children from Alberta, as well as western and northern
Canada, are now benefiting from state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment
technology, leading edge research and world-class expertise.
I can tell you first-hand that the Maz is truly an amazing hospital,
delivering the very best in cardiac treatment and care.
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is no
exception. When critically ill patients need it most, the staff to patient
ratio is at least one to one, 24 hours a day.
Throughout my recovery the doctors, nurses and other members
of the healthcare team were always there for me. Even on the difficult
days. Even when I just wanted to give up.
After spending ten days in a coma, it’s hard to get out of bed!
Some days I wouldn’t have moved at all if it wasn’t for their positivity
and encouragement. They were absolutely amazing.
I will be forever grateful to each and every one of them.
And I will be forever grateful to you too.
Your continued support is vital to help the heart institute keep pace
with rapidly changing technology and the latest in research discoveries.
Given the statistics, there’s a good chance at some point either you or
someone you love will need the advanced care provided at the Mazankowski
Alberta Heart Institute.
Since opening its doors to patients in 2009, over 100,000 lives have
