( together with some teachers teaching Pre- University classes ) from St . Joseph ' s to the Cathol ic Junior College in 1975 . One immediate result of this was that St . Joseph ' s Institution lost the invaluable leadersh ip provided by the Pre-University
classes over the years . Despite th is loss , our Secondary III and IV students , however , have responded positively to the challenges ahead . So far , Joseph - ians have not only strived hard towards achieving higher academic standards in the Singapore- Cambridge G . C . E . ' 0 ' Level Examinations , but have also been able to fill the leadership vacuum in extra-curricular activities .
Under the direction of Brother J . Kiely , great efforts are being made to improve the academic performance of the school . Thus , in June 1976 , St . Joseph ' s became the first school to organise a two-day residential seminar for members of the staff at the Civil Service Staff Development Institute . The response of the staff towards the seminar , aptly named , " Towards a Better Curriculum Development " was over-whelming , despite the fact that participation was on a voluntary basis .

appeals for funds from the teachers , students , old boys and well-wishers , the target was well achieved . This enabled restoration work to be carried out and now 51- Joseph ' s remains architecturally a unique building in the changing face of Singapore .
The year 1977 is one of great significance for St . Joseph ' s Institution when she celebrates her 125th Anniversary . To celebrate this auspicious ocassion , our Sports Day on 16th April 1977 was held on the school field to bring back a sense of nostalgia especially to old boys who witnessed the function . On 23rd April 1977 , our Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day was held at the National Theatre for the first time . This memorable function was well attended by our retired teachers as well as prominent old boys .
Epilogue : The present enviable status of St . Joseph ' s Institution in the educational ranks of Singapore is , in no small measure the efforts of those great pioneers of Christian education - Reverend Father J . M . Beurel , Reverend Brothers liefroy , Lothaire , Gregory , Michael and all their worthy successors . Their untiring energy , devotion to duty , indefatigable zeal and professional competence will be an everlasting monument in the cause of Christian education not only in St . Joseph ' s Institution , but in the Republic of Singapore .
