After having completed this ambitious project successfully , Brother Michael left for Europe and America on 14th August 1907 for a welldeserved rest and vacation . During his absence , Brother Aimare , the Sub-Director , took over his place . Brother Michael resumed his office as Director of St . Joseph ' s on 3rd June 1908
During the mid-year vacation in 1910 , Brother Michael turned his attention to a long existing want - that of a verandah around the ends and back of the old school . He raised $ 7,000 from the Chinese Community in Singapore and the pupils of the school collected another $ 2,000 . Work commenced on 2nd July and the entire structure was completed on 15th November 1910 . The new building was blessed by Bishop Barillou on 26th November 1910 . At the same time , the old dome was refurbished and lined with teak and the present cross on the top of the dome was erected .
