- Message----- .

Dear Josephians ,
1977 is indeed a memorable year for your great school - 125th birthday . By any standard 125 years is a long time in the life of a school and it is particularly so in
relation to schools in this part of the world .
St Joseph ' s Institution has a long and enviable record of excel / ence in many fields . For this we owe a great debt of gratitude to God and to the hundreds of Brothers and lay teachers who have guided its destinies for over 125 years in the great traditions emanating from St John Baptist De La Sal / e founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools .
It should be the fondest hope of every student of St Joseph ' s to adhere to and foster the spirit of St John Baptist De La Sal / e . This spirit is embodied in the great traditions of your school and also in the present teachings coming down from the Brother Superior General who is the voice of the La Sal / ian Brothers .
In 1976 , the supreme policy making General Chapter of the Brothers met in Rome and formulated policy thought to be most urgent and vital for the needs of today . The main item
in this policy is " concern for the poor ". In other words , you as members of the great international LaSal / ian family are cal / ed upon to show that you are aware of those around you who are in need - the economicallv poor , the intel / ectual / y poor , the psychological / y poor , the physically poor . It is hoped that the more and more you will think of this that an attitude will be formed which you wil / cultivate and activate not only in your school days but in particular when you leave school and take up positions of power and responsibility .
We are living in a highly competitive world and Almighty God expects us to use aI / our talents to the utmost , but He expects us also to give some thought to others who may be less talented - the greatest of all virtues is Charity .
