St . John A ", bulance Brigade St . Joseph ' s Institution

The St . John Ambulance Brigade was revived in our school in late 1969 . It was felt that the SJAB could provide beneficial training for our boys who could then render their services to the school and the public . After a fruitful recruitment , preliminary steps were taken by conducting first-aid classeswith the invaluable assistance of a few instructors from the Beatty Combined Division ( BCD ) of the East Central Area ( ECA ). At the same time , we also enlisted the help of a few NCOs from our school National Cadet Corps to train our members in basic foot-drill .
In April 1971 , after a series of training sessions conducted by the officers from BCD at the YMCA grounds , our members participated in the Foot-drill Competition at Anglo-Chinese School and came in fourth . In June , our members also took part in the ECA First-aid Competition and came in first in stretcher drill . During this time , one of the teachers-in-charge attended the Officers ' Promotion Course conducted at the National Youth Leadership Training Institute .
In early 1972 , our school provided the Division with a room to house all our first aid equipment and to carry out our weekly activities . We also acquired the invaluable service of our Divisional Surgeon . Three of our members were promoted to cadet leaders . By now , we had our own NCOs . With the help of these industrious NCOs , our Division became self-reliant .
Our strength improved by leaps and bounds in 1973 . Two of our senior NCOs were promoted to Divisional Officers and they helped to run the Division by training our members in first-aid and foot-drill . In our third attempt , our teams came in first and second in the ECA Foot-drill Competition . Our Adult Division was also formed this year .
In 1974 , another three of our senior NCOs were promoted to Divisional Officers . Two of these officers helped to run the Adult Division . The untiring and sustained efforts of all the cadet officers brought more successesto the Division . Intensive training was carried out both in the school and at the grounds of the Police Academy . Our members retained ' the coveted ECA Footdrill Challenge Shield . Furthermore , we won the Ee Peng Liang Challenge Trophy in the First Inter-divisional Foot-drill Competition . Our newly-formed Adult Division won the Khoo Kim Hee Trophy in the ECA Adult First-aid Competition for the first time .
In 1975 , our members failed to retain the prized ECA Foot-drill Challenge Shield . Our cadet team took second place in the ECA First-aid Competition . However , our adult team retained the Khoo Kim Hee Trophy . The same team further won the Dr . Haridas Trophy in the inter-area adult First-aid Competition . Our officers organised an NCO ' s Course for our members and members from St . Anthony ' s Convent and Chai Chee Secondary School .
In 1976 our adult team won the Khoo Kim Hee Trophy for the third year . We emerged runners-up in the ECA Foot-drill Competition and also won the Ee Peng Liang Challenge Trophy for the second year running . The commander of the competition team also won the Best Commander Award .
In addition to first-aid and foot-drill , we have activities such as day hikes , overnight hikes and camps for our members . Our members also participate in inter-divisional activities such as badminton , athletics , Do-de Shows and table-tennis .
Every year , our members render countless number of hours of public service ut numerous school and national functions .
The school has given our 0 ivision tremendous support and encouragement by giving subsidies towards the provision of uniforms and equipment for our members .
Finally , credit must be given to our highly dedicated cadet officers and NCOs and members for all their hard work and sustained effort which have made possible all the past achievements and the present standard of the Division .
