They champion regional initiatives that support tech companies and startups , and they work directly with scaling startups to help connect them with the necessary business resources .”
Mayra Vega , mayor pro tempore for the city of Woodland , says GSEC is the “ driving force ” that has supported staff with marketing and business development tools to expand Woodland ’ s enterprises . Currently , Vega says there are 190 food and agriculture businesses in the area .
GSEC has also helped elevate the Woodland Research and Technology Park , a proposed 350-acre , mixed-use development center complete with 1,600 residential housing units and lab spaces that Vega calls “ a regional gem .”
Livability . com recently named Woodland as one of the best cities in America to live in — and for good reason , according to Vega . “ It ’ s a great community ,” she says . “ We have a wonderful downtown and great housing . There ’ s proximity to universities . You don ’ t have to import labor or talent in , we are growing it . … I ’ m excited about building a community where you can live , work and innovate and age in place .”
