Citizens for Cityhood
Cityhood can be a hot-button topic in El Dorado Hills , where the county skews conservatively with residents concerned over extra layers of government .
“ Forming a new city is about changing the status quo ,” says Michael Seaman , founder of a statewide coalition , California [ un ] inc . “ And if you ’ ve ever read Machiavelli in ‘ The Prince ,’ he makes it very clear that trying to change the status quo is a very difficult thing because you ’ re messing with the people who profit from the existing arrangement , and you only get lukewarm supporters from the people who would profit or benefit from the different arrangement .”
Without cityhood , dollars that could be kept local flow to the county , and residents of El Dorado Hills have less say in how their region is managed .
Cityhood would allow El Dorado Hills to preserve a substantial amount of its sales , property and transient occupancy tax revenues , “ so the county does not get the money that they used to get from us ,” says Steve Ferry , leader of El Dorado Hills Citizens for Cityhood that supports incorporation .
More local dollars might go a long way toward fixing roads and delivering municipal services such as parks , infrastructure and first responders to residents of El Dorado Hills . “ From the residents ’ perspective of El Dorado Hills , we would have much higher levels of service available , particularly in law enforcement as opposed to what the sheriff is currently able to offer through the county at the present time ,” says Hidahl .
Jon Schorle , a retired police chief for seven different agencies , agrees . He says he absolutely supports cityhood partly because of “ the need for a more homegrown police agency .”
