ASK ANY REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER , contractor or commercial real estate broker , and – no surprise – 2020 was not the year they were anticipating . Projects that were planned have stalled or been scrapped entirely . Retail , hospitality and office projects that were in the pipeline are changing to consider a COVID-19 and post-COVID world . But , thankfully , construction has continued as an essential service during the pandemic , and has continued to be an economic driver . Exciting public projects for California state workers have continued downtown and are now underway in the River District . Multifamily residential and mixed-use projects can be found in progress in The Railyards , in downtown and Midtown , as well as in Natomas , Folsom , El Dorado Hills and beyond . And a wave of industrial projects are taking shape at McClellan Park , West Sacramento , and in Placer , Solano and San Joaquin counties . Civic projects are also leading the way , with a new Sacramento County courthouse soon to break ground along the southern border of The Railyards , the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity reshaping our riverfront , and just beyond the Capital Region in Sonora , a new courthouse project is being led by a local team . These are just a handful of examples , not even taking into account many more in health care , education and other key categories . The pages that follow offer a glimpse at a few of the region ’ s most high-profile projects and the teams who are shaping our built environment during uncertain times .
