Leading the Region ’ s Leaders

Passionate about making change to improve our region and the way we live , Bonnie Ferreira is a leader among leaders as CEO of the American Leadership Forum ’ s Mountain Valley chapter . As this nonprofit organization celebrates its 25th anniversary , Ferreira reflects on its significance and remains excited about its future . By bringing together diverse leaders from myriad industries , sectors and professions , ALF creates opportunities for meaningful communication , understanding and collaboration for stronger communities . Each year , professionals who have achieved personal and professional growth and show potential for a commitment to collaboration are selected for the ALF Fellows program and Senior Fellows network in the five counties that comprise the Greater Sacramento region . Having heard about the organization through Senior Fellows , Ferreira was taken with the unique connections throughout the region that ALF had helped foster . “ I was a participant in the ALF Fellows program when the search was underway for a new executive director , and having personally witnessed the network in action , I wanted to be part of taking it even further ,” she says . Recognizing diversity as a cornerstone of ALF , Ferreira says , “ I was intrigued by this network of leaders working together to address challenges with equity as an end game . I couldn ’ t pass up the opportunity to continue the work of connecting people from different backgrounds to improve our communities and our region .” As ALF challenges its Fellows to develop as leaders , Ferreira challenges herself to grow as well . Successfully bringing together the energy and perspectives of such a diverse group of leaders continues to inspire her . “ I believe ALF can be a model for how organizations and institutions can create meaningful , respectful dialogue , even when we disagree with each other ,” she says . “ I see a new generation of leaders taking hold in our region and hope we can continue to connect and inspire them to build deep relationships that can transform our communities .”

“ I see a new generation of leaders committed to equity taking shape in this region and hope we can continue to connect and inspire them to build deep relationships that can transform our communities .”
