Happiness survey
Taking all things together , would you say you are :
not at all happy / a little unhappy / neither happy or unhappy / somewhat happy / very happy
Instructions
Once this is done tell the group they will be coming back to this at the end of the course . Get the group to fold their survey over and staple it . They should also then write their name on it ( incl . initial for surname ) and then place them all in a sealed envelope . Explain to the group we will re-open them in 10 weeks ’ time .
Changing My Happiness

To discover that we can change our level of happiness .
Instructions
Start with the quick challenge below and ask the questions that follow . Explore participants ’ answers ( dig a little deeper and explore the reasons behind their answers ). At the end , use the PowerPoint slides to explain what we can and cannot change . If you wanted you could kick off by bringing in some fancy dress items , i . e . party hat , fake beard , glasses etc , and get the group to put on different items before asking the questions below .
Activity
I want us to come up with five things in life that you can change and five things you can ’ t .
If the group needs a prompt you could offer some suggestions but they can ’ t use what you say . Things you could change could be a lightbulb , clothes , jobs , friends etc . Things you can ’ t change could be your DNA , the weather , when it gets dark , the past etc .
