Use your sunglasses
If there’ s high glare and you don’ t have a filter, just hold your polarized sunglasses as close to the lens as possible, check the image in your viewfinder, and snap.

Wrap your camera
During our trip to the Sahara Desert, three of us had our camera lenses jammed( permanently!) from exposure to fine sand in the air during a sandstorm( like powder). Keep cameras protected in zip lock bags and / or wrapped in cloth.

A Note from Harriet: Wrapping your camera is also important in humid locations. Our photographers have suggested using a hotel shower cap for this, or even placing your camera in a plastic bag with a sock filled with dry rice. The rice absorbs moisture.

Bring an instant camera
Those old-school, Polaroid-type cameras may not create the most artistic images, but they sure can create some amazing memories if you use one to photograph a local person, and then give the photo to them as a gift. Just be ready to capture the smile that lights their face when they see the magical image appear.
